Bright blue, shining eyes stared at the young Uchiha in confusion while Naruto's gobsmacked brain frantically tried to process what was just said to him.
"What", Uzumaki asked intelligently.
Sasuke coldly narrowed his eyes. He stood majestically on a high wall of the maze Naruto, Sakura and Sai had ran into, like an untouchable statue, something ancient and unmovable and definitely not the boy Naruto had competed with in his childhood, not the boy he bonded with and played with and made friends with, not anymore. A moment of Naruto's inattention later Uchiha magically appeared mere centimeters away from the boy's flummoxed face.
"I said", Sasuke drawled," that I will go back to the village..."
Naruto didn't move, couldn't move when Sasuke's hand shot up and three slender fingers held up his chin, squeezing slightly.
"...if you give up on eating ramen," finished the handsome boy, shortening the distance between their faces and staring intensely into the wide pools of blue, his pearly teeth bared in a predatory grin and his skin almost white in the blazing sun.
Naruto had to blink when Sasuke's tomato breath ghosted over his face, tickling his cheeks and ruffling his hair. Then the meaning of the other boy's words filtered through the haze of wonder at seeing the most important person in his life again after three years of fruitless chase and sleepless nights filled with worry and training and hope.
And all the words Naruto had prepared years ago, meant to convey how much Sasuke meant to him and to everyone else, meant to convince him he would be welcomed and have a chance for a better life, meant to show him that Itachi was not worth his time, meant to let him know that he should live for himself, meant to make Sasuke SEE and finally GO HOME died on his lips and Naruto smiled and said yes.
And they all went home.
