My name means “dark” and “bitter”.
The waves violently crash onto the shore when a storm is brewing,
The dark clouds appear in the sky as you hear the thunder roar.
Then you see the lightning, a big burst of light in the dark world surrounding you.
The rain starts to fall and so do your tears, and your dark makeup starts to drip off your face.
In your head the world seems pitch black, like being in a cave with no flash light.
This is what my name looks like.
You walk into a diner and put on your polite smile as you take a seat.
While you order a coffee small talk is made with the waitress.
The bitter taste of coffee with no cream or sugar fills your mouth;
You hate it, yet it soothes you.
That is how my name tastes.
Now you pick at your black nail polish and try to wipe away the smeared makeup from your eyes.
The storm fades away and it is time for you to leave the diner;
Instinctively you begin to walk towards your broken home.
When you call “Hello” once you get in the door, no one answers.
Feeling lonely you go to your room and begin to cry once more;
Thinking of all the time you spend alone.
That is how my name feels.
A creak down the hall startles you, because no one is home.
The hair on your neck stands up and feel like you’re being watched.
Turning on some music to block the creaking noises helps your nerves;
Then you hear a thud over the sad songs and open the door to investigate.
You scream so loudly the mirror in the bathroom shatters.
This is what my name sounds like.
The bright fire coming from downstairs blinds you.
The fire has trapped you and the only way out is to jump out the window.
Thankfully you land in some bushes below and only have a few scratches.
You stand back to see the flame engulfing your home as dark smoke covers the night sky.
Tears run down your face and you fall to your knees.
The smell of smoke and the burning wood of your childhood home fills the air.
That is how my name smells.
