"Nervous?" My mom says gently.
"What do you think?" I ask her.
"I think your horrified"
As she finishes putting the tightest bun she has ever done in my hair, I just try to decide what to choose at the choosing ceremony today but I guess it's too hard to choose ahead.
"Beatrice prior, you are going to be fine."
My mom leaves the mirror open while she does her hair. She isn't supposed to, and I'm not supposed to know she does, so I guess we're even there. I only get a second to look in the mirror. We finally got to the choosing ceremony as they called my name.
"Beatrice prior" called Gillian standing next to her husband, Marcus. I slowly walk up to the stage. When I get there I take a strand of hair out of my head. Should I choose abnegation, the selfless, also my current faction, amity, the kind, candor, the honest, dauntless, the brave, erudite, the smart, or the factionless, the people who don't fit In anywhere. I take my strand of hair and place it over the abnegation bowl and bring it over to the dauntless bowl and drop it in. No one claps. I run to the dauntless and sit down.
