Cara rolled over on her floor clutching her side. “uuuuggghhhh” she moaned as she slowly opened her eyes.

“DON’T EVER TRY THAT AGAIN!” the words harshly spat from her so called father. She had no response, he turned and slammed the wooden door as he walked away leaving Cara frozen to the floor in pain. This was not the first time he had done this, hit her, in fact this was frequent. Cara tried to rise from the cold wooden floor but pain shot through her ribs from where she had been hit ‘ugh for fuck sake’ she thought as her body broke beneath her.  Cara had tried to escape, to see the outside once more through her wood covered window, but she had got caught and had been punished.

Cara’s father used to be a tall handsome man but now...  now he drank and sat on the pillow less couch using any excuse to hit Cara. And where was her mother, well her mother was now just a voice she heard behind the door at the top of the stairs, Cara could not remember what her mother looked like she was not around long enough for her to before she was locked into the room. Her voice will echo through the house sometimes and that when Cara will sit on the stairs and talk to her. The pain was starting to fad from Cara's side as she stood and walked over to the corner of her once lively room, she slowly slide down the black wall using one hand to be ready when she hit the floor. She was staring at the chipped paint on her wall that was revealing the white that once covered her room walls. Her hand hit the ground with a small thud as Cara hit the wooden floor, she used one hand to feel around for the bandage and the other to hold her now fractured ribs. It took her some time but she found it she shook of the dust as the musty smell filled her nostrils with a small splutter of a cough she began wrapping her torso with the blood stained bandage that had been used to help heal or cover all her scars.

Hamish sat on the old springy couch and cracked open a beer, he heard the moans of Cara trying to move around her bedroom. A smirk spread across his face at the work he had done to her ribs, while taking a sip of beer he grabbed the plate that was sitting on the card board box that he used as a table and walked towards the stairs “DINNER.” Hamish yelled as he walked up the blood stain stairs. He lifted the small flap in the door and slid the plate in, he heard footsteps towards the door and slumped down on the stair waiting to see her through the small flap. He saw her long brown hair as she sat back to the door eating the food. “You just have to say it you know.” He said with a hint of love in his voice, her shoulders rose and fell with a long huffed sigh.

“but that’s a total lie, and until you see that...” she turned her head, her giant blue eyes filling with tears. “Then you will stay the same person and that person...” Her head snapped back to her plate and she turned to look at me dead in the eyes through the flap, her hand raised as she backed away picking up the plate and throwing it straight through the whole in the door, hitting Hamish directly in the face with a sickening smack. She watched as he cupped his face in pain “UGH YOU BITCH!” yelled cupping his hands to his face as blood poured from his nose, Hamish stood and ran to the empty kitchen and looked around for a cloth.

Sarah was proud at the pain she had caused him, she giggled to herself and moved away from the door. She knows she can last without food if it caused him pain for what he does to her and her daughter, the windows were covered in old wood, the smell of mould was all that Sarah ever smelt, the small amount of food she got she would keep and save up until it started to go a little off and then it was gone before it fell to the cold clasp of the mould. Walking over to the small pile of pillows Sarah had as a bed, she lifted the smallest one revelling, a small pile of fruit and bread, the colour starting to go green in places. She picked up an apple taking a small bite savouring the juices that that flow through her mouth. She heard a coughing coming from down the hall, she giggled to herself proud that she stood up to the evil that now took control of her.

Hamish was hunched over the sink trying to breathe but blood filled his air ways, he sneezed starting the blood flow all over again, he held his head backwards and let out a scream of anger, slamming his hand down on the counter ‘ugh, I am giving her plastic from now on.’ The thought was a good one to him, until he realised that meant he had to go get some, and as far as the town was concerned they had left a while ago now so leaving the house would be risky, getting food and drinks were a task at night when he would sneak into the neighbours house and stole it when they were out. He would have to think of another way to make sure he wouldn’t get another plate to the face. He heard a door open and a couple of footsteps; Hamish knew he could not deal with this girl now. His nose had finally stopped running blood, he threw the rag down in the sink and turned himself towards the giant archway and stormed towards Cara’s room.

Cars heard the footsteps coming towards her, she became dead frozen in her tracks, she knew she had to muster some courage; she turned and took a deep breath “WHAT?” She yelled fear filling her voice.

“WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?” Hamish’s voice bellowed though out the house, even Sarah could hear his voice through the door, and she knew Cara was in trouble now. Not wanting to listen she went over to her pillows and covered her ears, as tears fell down her checks.

“I'm GOING TO GET A BANDAGE FROM THE BATHROOM.” Cara’s adrenaline had started to run now, she just wanted to kick him.

“Fine” Hamish said, turning and walking away to the kitchen, leaving Cara in shock.
