Chapter 1

Ravens P.O.V.

I'm in my room trying and failing to sleep, my mind won't stop thinking and worrying. Tommorrow I have to go back to school after winter break that would be fine if we didn't have new kids in town. Our town is really small well in population in space like most small towns we have a lot of it. Your neighbors could be dead and you would never notice. Speaking of neighbors the new family in town are my neighbors, my family and I haven't met them yet were planing on going over tomorrow after school. Your probably wondering why I'm worrying well I have a tendency to say things without thinking and that doesn't turn out very well with new people the last new people I meet still avoid me why did I have to ask when the baby was due. All my friends have come to love me for it they say the things that come out of my mouth are funnier and more interesting then t.v. but i don't get that, i don't find t.v very interesting i would rather go for a run to my favorite tree.

I sat up in bed that's a great idea ill go out side for a run then sit in my favorite tree and look at the stars, that'll clear my mind. I hop out of bed and start walking to my window ,I don't want to wake up my family. I open the window and climb out once my feet hit the ground I'm off, i don't even stop to close the window. My tree is a half a mile away and once you get to the tree its another half a mile to my neighbors house and that just happens to be the families house. Worry hits me as i make it to the tree line. I start to run faster like I was trying to run away from my worry.

Seriously Raven why would they be out in the woods at night, their new here they don't know the woods like you do and their not stupid enough to try and learn it at night. That helped me to stop worrying and start enjoying my run. The night air was cool but not cold even though I'm running in a tank and super short shorts that look more like underwear and no shoes. I find my self closing my eyes while running feeling the wind in my hair and on my bare skin, the sound of the wind in my ears blocking out the sounds of the night. I open my eyes to find that i had been weaving between the trees and not hitting them. I let out a laugh of pure enjoyment that only i would hear. I turn my head to the right and see a huge rock that's where me and my sisters used to play king of the rock when we were younger. Now its the rock i do homework on or as i like to call it "The Thinking Rock". I should be coming up to the clearing where my tree is soon. I start running even faster.

I fly through the tree line into the clearing, I stop and appreciate its beauty the grass was a bright playful green with flower every where and of all kinds. In the dead center of the clearing is my tree it from 20 to 30 feet tall it has a ton of thick low branches making it easier to climb up. At the very top this one branch bigger then all the others sticks out horizontally making it perfect to lay on and it has no leave on or above it so its the perfect place to look at the stars. I start running to the tree i quickly climb up it almost falling in the process when a small branch broke under my foot but i caught myself. I finally get to the top branch and lie down, I placed my head on a pillow i brought a while ago. I look up at the star and the first constellation a saw was Orion my all time favorite. I smile to myself as i remember his story.

Orion was a Demigod (half human half god) his mother was human but his father was Zeus the ruler of the gods. Zeus wanted nothing to do with Orion but when the Titains started to try to overthrow the gods Zeus sucked up his pride and asked Orion to help. Orion said yes only because his mothers dieing wish was for him to not be angry with Zeus and to help. So Orion went into battle with the gods against the Titains. Orion was winning he almost lived but while Orion was busy with one of the other Titains Kronos the king of all Titains came up behind him and cut off his head. Zeus was in such a rage that he split the earth and threw all the Titains inside before closing it. And because of Orion's bravery in battle Zeus decided to put Orion in the stars so everyone would remember him.

I came out of my mental story smiling i always loved that story. I look at the sky it so beautiful its hard to believe most of these stars are gone but the light they were transmitting still hasn't reached its end. I turn my head and see the moon it was a crescent out of nowhere one of my moms old lullaby came into my head and i just had to sing it.

"Moon, moon, so high above,

Goddess Artemis watch over us,

Give us dreams of rolling fields

And don't let the Rouges get us."

My mom was a great singer before she died she would always sing my sisters and I to sleep. The songs melody made it easy to sing over and over again until we were asleep. I decided to continue singing it I closed my eyes and lost myself in the song. Soon i found my words becoming softer and more disjointed and then I stopped all together and fell into my half-and-half sleep. Half-and-half sleep is when your breathing is slow and deep, your body is relaxed, and your eyes are moving like your dreaming but really you can hear everything around you and can wake up when ever needed and not feel the fogginess of sleep and feel fully rested even though your mind was working all night. That has alwayshelped me in school I get so bord I fall into my half-and-half sleep then the teacher calls my name and ask what they just said and I say it back word for word.

I get pulled out of my thoughts by the sound of fabric moving like someone putting on a shirt or pants. Thats weird is someone else out here I fought the need to open my eyes and see. I hear foot steps coming toward the tree. Questions ran through my head who would be in this part of woods at this time of night? Have they seen me and if they have what are they going to do? My sisters are to scared to end up like my parents to come out at night so that eliminates them from the running. My Aunt sleeps like the dead and NEVER gets up before 8:30 and she goes to bed at 10 on the dot and by my estimate its around 12 so shes out. That leaves ..... Gulp .... my new neighbors I am on the woods between their house and mine. Relax Raven if they still think your asleep maybe they'll leave or just wake you up.

I heard them on the branch right below me and at that moment my sleeping body decided to turn over making me fall off the branch but even before my heart could pick up speed and my eyes flutter open from the feeling of my body leaving the branch, I felt warm arms catch my body and pull it into their SHIRTLESSchest and from what I could feel they had an eight pack. Thank god my body and mind weren't connected at the moment or I would have sighed at the idea of it. Out of no where I felt wind hitting me from below like I was falling but I hadn'tmoved then i heard a soft thud and the vibration go through the guy holding me. OOOOOOHHHHH DUH!!!!!! The guy holding me must have dropped from the tree branch but wait we were around 30 feet in the air if he did drop from the branch his legs would be broken.

The guy started running fast really fast much faster than any one else i know could including myself. I listened to his heart and breathing the were both slow and steady like he was walking that really weird. With how fast he was going the wind was so much colder and I didn't have the warmth from running like I did when I ran here. My body shivered and snuggled closer to him for warmth and I heard his breath hitch and heart speed up. Again I thank god that my body and mind were not connected because if they were I would have laughed my ass off and scared the shit out of him. My face was pressed against his chest I took in a deep breath the smell of pine trees filled my nose and something I couldn't place but it smelt amazing. I sighed and snuggled closer I felt him shiver. He started to slow and I heard the crunch of gravel that I had outside my bed room window. Wait how did he know where I lived. All these question are giving me a head ache.

Suddenly the air was warmer we were in my room I felt only one hand holding me then I heard the window close and the blinds go down. How was he going to leave? When is he going to leave? I feel one of his arms under my neck and the other under my knees then I feel my bed under me and hes just gone. My eyes fly open and I sit up in my bed I had been under the covers laying like I always did to sleep. I turn to my window its closed and the blinds and curtain are down like they always are. I look around the room for any sign that would tell me it wasn't a dream. Every thing was perfect well of course the room would be Raven the only thing that would look different would be you. I look at the bottom of my feet there was a cut from when I broke the branch and a ton of dirt from my run.

I laughed then wispered "Nice try but I know I was out in the woods and you carried me back." I knew he couldnt hear me but I still wanted to say it. I laided down and as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out.
