My days are mundane and that's how I like it. I live alone, work alone, I am happy alone. I work the graveyard shift. I chose this time period for the quiet it offers. The work is easy, for the most part. I walk the grounds making sure everything and everyone is in its proper place. I work for a private company that services multiple wealthy families. The location I am stationed, is surrounded by open land. When I patrol the area it's a straight forward situation. Not to many structures anyone can hide behind nor inside. Not to many trees, rocks or shrubbery concealing any unwanted guests. Besides, this late in the evening the only visitors that comes by are typically requested by the residents. However, the homeowners rarely have late night requests. If anyone appears to commit malice on these grounds, I practice the correct procedures to handle any unwarranted situations. My security shed has an outside line for me to contact the authorities as well as a direct line to the home to be able to contact the family.
After doing my second walk around the home, I go back to the shed to continue reading a book from one of my favorite authors. I was only a few pages in. In my peripherals I see a shadow. I put my book down, to get a clear look of who or what this shadow is creeping towards the residence. I get into position planning the next step, waiting for them to get closer. I turn on the light.
"Are you lost?" I questioned the strange person out of place on this land. There was no reply. I gave him another chance to announce himself. "Do you need help?" I yell, a little louder. Still no response. This man is suspicious and I was not going to take chances. I pick up the phone, dial pound to get an outside line. No tone. I replace the handset then press the intercom button to the house. Still no response. The line from my shed isn't working. My heart begin racing. I maybe taller than the average female, but that doesn't mean I can take out a group of people. This could be a trap. He looks like he's alone. Then again, he could have more people hiding. Where? I scan the open area but I don't see any out of place figures or shapes along the land.
"I have called the authorities and they will be here soon." I lied
"No you have not. Come out of your shelter." He command.
"You don't belong here and should leave right away. This is private property." I reply as a refusal to his request.
"Not without you." His response to my warning.
I want to leave, run to the house to warn the homeowners. Then I remember my cell phone. I keep it in my jacket on the hook in the other room. Leaving the man in the spotlight I head for my phone to call the authorities and warn the homeowners of a possible intruder.
I call the local police telling the rep what is happening. I also let them know I am going to the house to warn the owners. The rep tells me to get some place safe and the police will arrive soon. I call the owners letting them know that there may be an intruder on the property and the police is on the way. I tell them to lock up and get to safety. Feeling safe, I go back to my watch location. The stranger is gone. I breathe a breath in relief. Then I realized I didn't lock the shed. I turn to run and lock the door.
"You have what I want." he says then he slices across my belly. Instinctively I grab where the knife slid hoping to stiffen any blood loss. It wasn't as wet or slippery as I thought it would be. I look down, my padding saved me. I grabbed for my Taser but I was to slow, he was already putting a damp cloth over my face. I fought back pulling it away. The effects of what was on the cloth was already in my system. I was getting weaker with every ticking second. My arms feel heavy, my head feels heavy. I...can't....
