Throughout the day, the two siblings shared laughter and conversation, alleviating some of the weight she had been carrying. Throughout their time together, Scorpius carefully noted her emotions, always keenly attuned to her state of mind. He sensed that she recognized his awareness, realizing he knew something.
She appreciated his effort, but also found herself contemplating what she would say when the time came. As they sat together in the garden, near the white roses, that had been planted by their mother, Nova seized the moment.
"Why haven't you asked?"
Scorpius, who was idly twirling a sprig of the white rose between his fingers, sighed, "I want to, Merlin, I desperately want to, but since you've been so quiet about everything...I think I get why you've remained silent."
"What are you talking about?" she responded in bewilderment, tilting her head at his statement.
Scorpius leaned back, a slight chuckle exiting his lips as he focused his gaze on her. "Sis, you haven't even reached out to Rose. The fact that you've kept everyone at a distance speaks volumes."
"You hate it, don't you?" Nova posed, her voice trailing off as she lowered her head.
