The restaurant we decided on was called Yardbird. I, of course, was skeptical because the cleanliness of this restaurant was questionable due to the name. But besides that, the tension between me and Houston was thicker than a pot of cold grits.
"So Marlee? Any boyfriends or girlfriends?". Jewels winked at me.
If you hadn't picked up on it now, I think Jewels had a teeny crush on me, which was flattering but my last relationship with a girl was...complicated.
"Actually she has a boyfriend in the Bronx". Angel cut into the conversation making me facepalm.
What the fuck? Now Houston thinks I'm a two-timing hoe who dumped him to be with the other guy who didn't fucking exist by the way.
"Actually, Angel that ended today". I spoke through a strained tone.
"Awww I'm sorry boo. Well, tonight we're having a rager if you wanna get some stress out". Jewels put her hand on top of mine.
"Rager?". I cocked my head to the side.
"Yeah, its where we listen to fast pace music and the entire party is one big mosh pit". Jewels explained a crazed grin on her face.
"Huh, yeah no I'm gonna take a hard pass on that one. It all sounds like one big nose bleed". I shook my head.
Before we could continue talking, our server came up and he looked awfully familiar.
"Wait a minute aren't you airport guy?". I asked amusedly.
"Uh...I...uh?". He blushed as he had recognized me.
I love how boys lose their words over me.
"Actually...uhm...m-my name is Zion". He stammered.
"Cute name, so you work here?".
"No. My Dad owns the place and wants me to learn how to run it". He explained, still amazed by me.
"Wow. I'm impressed. Rich and cute. I like you, Zion". I giggled.
He blushed even harder.
"Well not rich, just well off for now until my parents decide I need to fend for myself".
Cute, rich, and humble. Ding ding ding, we got a winner.
"Well Zion how would you like to take me out this week?". I cut straight to the point.
I know I just got out of a quote-unquote three-month relationship but one thing you need to know is that, I'm young and new love interests are exciting. I'm not a hoe though, don't get the two confused.
"Can we just order our food?". Houston grumbled.
"Don't be a cockblocker Houston". Reed chuckled.
"Hey! I am not the type of girl, but what do you say, Zion? You, me a night to remember?". I smirked up at him.
"Yeah, I'm down with that". He beamed.
I wrote my number down on a napkin and handed it to him.
"I'll make sure to call".
"And I'll make sure to answer"

We left the restaurant and Houston was fuming. Well, at least now I can scope out the Miami scene.
Now we were headed to the beach to chill. The group wanted to "get to know me" especially after the whole convo with Zion.
We picked a spot and spread out a big blanket.
"Ok, so Marlee?". Reed turned to me.
"Ok, so Reed?". I mocked him.
"I have never seen a girl ask a guy out like that, what's your deal".
"My deal?". I was honestly confused.
"Yes! You literally asked him out with zero fear. I wanna be like you". Angel admired.
"Well I just look at it like the worse the person can say is no or that they're dating someone. And why let fear take over if you're a human who needs to connect with someone in order to survive". I preached.
"Wow. Ok, so you see relationships as survival?". Houston spoke up.
"Precisely". I smirked.
I loved playing with Houston. I liked the way he floated on my every word like a plastic bag in the wind.
" What was your last relationship like?". Jewels butted in.
"A guy and a girl. The three of us one relationship". I answered.
"What the fuck?! My cousin is the actual wild child in the family!". Angel clapped her hands.
"How the hell did that end?". Reed looked shocked.
"Me on the floor drunk and breaking up with the both of them because I had found something, or someone better".
"Bronx bae?". Angel chimed in cheerfully.
"You could say that".
"Girl we need details". Jewels was loving every minute of this.
"Ok fine. I met a guy his name was Adam and we did like each other so when he asked me to be his girlfriend I said yes. But then I met a girl named Sky. She was the first girl I ever kissed. We met at a party in Brooklyn and we immediately linked. So I told Adam if he cared about me how he said he did he would share me, in the end, we all ended up together". I explained.
"Any sex?". Reed narrowed his eyes at me.
Angel slapped his arm.
"Only with Sky".
Everybody's jaw dropped.

We went back home and Angel started getting ready for the rager.
"You sure you don't wanna come?". Angel asked.
"Nope, gonna sit here and text Zion until you get back". I plopped down on her bed.
"You sure you're feeling ok about your Bronx bae?". She sat next to me and put her hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm cool. It was for the greater good". I hugged her.
Little does she know.
