Chp 5
That day at school it was like everything was back to normal. Back to the way things were before Scott got quarter back for the football team.
He met me at my locker in the morning and we went and got a coffee together. Then we headed to home room and sat down the back and talked for ages. Even when the 'populars' came in Scott didn't even glance at them, he just continued talking to me acting like they didn't even exist or cross his radar, just like they hadn't before the summer. I smiled to myself, I had my best friend, the old Scott back.
When the lunch bell rang myself and Scott walked out of 6th period English together.
'Whats the plan for lunch ?" Scott asked.
I turned to him with a mock shocked expression on my face, 'the schools quarterback and 2nd most popular guy in school just asked little old me what my plan is for lunch! It must be my lucky day ! "
'what's all that for?" Scott questioned, pretending to be hurt by my statement.
'are you not having lunch with your "friends" ?' I asked because I couldn't help myself.
'who ? Oh you mean them' he said nodding towards the jocks who were barreling down the corridor passing a football to each other and the cheerleaders running behind them shaking their Pom poms. I nodded.
'they aren't my friends, you are!' he said
pulling me into a hug.
'Get off me, I scolded him, pushing him away from me playfully. You know what I was wondering Scott ? I asked him.
'what were you wondering Sophie', he replied smiling goofily.
'Do they ever put those damn Pom poms down for one minute of the day' I said looking at the cheerleaders in the corridor heading to the cafeteria.
'No , I even think they shower with them' he told me, mock serious with a poker face.
Then we glanced at each other and burst out laughing. Boy did this feel good.
'Now in all seriousness, what are we doing for lunch cos I'm starving', Scott whined.
'Nandos?' I asked.
'Sounds good, now let's go, he said dragging me down the corridor to the student car park. We can discuss the plans for the party tomorrow over a nice helping of Nandos peri peri chicken. I groaned out loud and he grinned at me devilishly, you said you'd come' he thrilled gleefully. What had I let myself in for.
