John Kadel was born in 1835 in an unspecified town in what was then the Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine (Großherzogtum Hessen und bei Rhein), alt. the Grand Duchy of Hesse (German: Großherzogtum Hessen) capital Darmstadt.
Originally, his birth name was either Johann Kadel or Johannes Kadel.
By 1860 he was living in New York, New York Ward 22 (bounded by 86th Street on the north; 40th Street on the south; 6th Avenue on the east; Hudson River on the west) Election District 1 (75th-86th Streets; River to 8th Avenue).
In the 1880 census he was listed as resident in New York City but moved to Port Jervis that year.
He died Sunday 6 August 1916 4:30pm at 87 East Main Street, Port Jervis, New York 12771. The funeral was held at home 2pm Wednesday 9 August 1916.
