I stepped onto the roof. There she was, right where she'd sworn she'd never go. Standing at the edge. Facing me. I knew there was no escaping this. I'd brought it upon myself.
"You knew," I whispered. "You knew all along."
"Knew what? Your deepest secrets? The truths under your lies?" Her voice was cold, unfeeling. She blinked at me, her pink eyes disappearing for a terrifying moment.
"You know what I mean." I glowered at her. She knew! She knew she was more important to me than him, than anyone! How could she do this? How could I have done this to her?
"Yes. I did know it would come to this. And so did you, deep down. You knew I couldn't be fixed no matter how hard we tried. And you still, despite everything, you still chose him," she spat. She closed her eyes and trailed off. She seemed relaxed. Devoid of all the hatred and the depression that filled her mind. "One more thing, Dirk. Take care of Mutie while I'm gone."
"No, please! Please!" I shouted, moving forward. She smiled at me, that perfect smile. No tears rolled down her cheeks, while my eyes ran like rivers.
