Bandit sat and watched the maids and her mother as they set everything up for Bandit's birthday ball tonight. They were deciding where to put the ice sculpture of her. She didn't want an ice sculpture that looked just like her, she didn't want huge of piles of food made for royalty. She didn't want to celebrate her birthday in an over decorated ballroom. She wanted to go to the south side.
"Bandit, there you are. I've been looking all over for you." Prince Johnnie said as he approached Bandit, taking her hand and kissing it.
"Hi, Johnnie." She said, clearly annoyed by his presence.
"Come on Bandit, cheer up today's your birthday." He locked his arm with hers and leading her out to the balcony. "And when I become king, we'll get rid of the south side, and the country will come together as one. Those disgusting gray ruins will become shiny and white, just like here. Wouldn't that be nice?"
"No, it would not be nice. The people on the south side have been fighting this war, so that they can keep their side, just the way it is. It's bad enough that it's in ruins because of war, but it's home to them." Bandit responded quite mad that he would do such thing, even though it was no suprise to her.
"Calm down, Bandit. Why do you care anyway? It's not like you live there, or ever will." Johnnie told her, before he went back inside.
Bandit had a plan, a plan to go to the south side, and see it for herself.
~Ball~
Bandit walked around greeting people, in her puffy pink ball gown. (picture on the side) She was was quite anxious as she would be sneaking out to go to the south side. It was time for the father-daughter dance. Everyone made space for my father and I on the dance floor.
"You've grown up so much, and in only 4 months you'll be the queen." Her father said to her as they danced.
"Yup." She said. They swayed back and forth, untill it was Johnnie's turn to dance with her.
"There's already a whole life waiting for you, Bandit. You want something else that you can't have." He told her. "In 3 months we'll get married, and try for a baby. Then a month after that we'll become King and Queen." He knew she didn't want to be Queen, but what he didn't know was that she wanted to go to the south side. No one knew, and it was meant to stay that way.
After the ball was over, and everyone went to sleep, she left the castle and ran towards the south side. She had to climb up the remains of a small house to get in. Her gown ripped but she didn't care. She breathed in the air of the south side, it was so much more different, more dirtier then the north side. She walked around looking at all these house in ruins, due to the war that HER father started. She felt like a horrible person walking around here, since she was the princess of the north side.
"Are you lost?" A raspy voice called from behind her. Startled, she turned around.
"No, um, I'm not lost." She said.
"Are you sure? 'Cause the north side's that way." He told her, pointing in the opposite direction. He had the most perfect brown curls, and he was tall and handsome.
"I know, I'm the princess. Today's my 18th birthday, and I've always wanted to come here, and explore this side, so here I am. But I have to go back before sunrise" She said.
"Why on earth would the princess want to come here?" He asked.
"Because I'm not you're typical princess." She said. "I'm Bandit, and you are?" She held her hand out for him to shake.
"I'm Harry." He said, ignoring her hand.
"So, umm, what do you do around here?" She said, breaking the awkward silence.
"I fight for my life." He said, getting annoyed by her. "Unlike you, who gets whatever you want without having to do anything."
"Well, it obviously wasn't my choice to be a princess. I would actually love to live here."
"No, you wouldn't. No one here likes it here. It's just ruins, we have nothing. Thanks to your father."
"And I'm truly sorry. I wish it wasn't like that."
"Like you care. You have everything you need and want. You're a princess. You shouldn't be over here, just go and don't come back. I'm warning you."
"Why what's the worst that could happen?" She spat back at him.
"Trust me. You don't want to find out." He said.
She turned and left, not because Harry told her to, but because she wanted to get some sleep so that she could come here tomorrow and see what it was really like.
