April stared at the email she was about to send. Joining the New York Philharmonic was a step she needed to take. April broke up 3 months ago with her boyfriend, Jayson, after 3 years of being together. Jayson seemed to be doing fine, but it took a while for April to get over the man she had loved for so long.
Sitting on her bed in her apartment, she stared at the computer screen with her mouse hovering over the "send" button. Her resume and her choice of auditioning in person were all there, ready to be sent.
I can do this. I have been preparing for this for years. She thought.
April took a deep breath and hit the send button. She felt the knot in her stomach loosen. She flopped onto her back, spread eagle over her bed. It was 12 am and she was ready to go to sleep.
That was it, now she just had to wait for the audition music to come. She was already attending her last year of school at Julliard in New York for her masters degree, so she wouldn't have to travel far to audition.
She sat up and looked at her French Horn in the corner of her room. It was a rose gold color and barely had a dent on it. The curves and pipes of the instrument were beautiful and made her so happy when she played. She had already practiced for 2 hours today and was too lazy to put it back in its case.
Slowly standing back up, April placed her laptop on the desk next to her bed, and lay back down and fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.
*One month later*
BEEP BEEP BEEP
BEEP BEEP BEEP
At 8:30, Aprils alarm went off, seemingly louder than usual. Today was the day of the New York Philharmonic auditions. April slowly got up, and a huge knot in her stomach was starting to form. The director at Julliard said that she has a good chance, but she was still nervous. Too nervous to eat breakfast. The audition was at 12:30, so she would have to be there at 12:00 to get ready.April sat on her bed, staring at the wall. This was the day. Her entire life could go one way or another today. A sharp knock at her door made April jump. She got up and answered her door. Looking down, she realized she was in her pajamas but was too lazy to do anything about it. When she opened the door, a tall blond man holding a rose was standing there.
"Um, Hi Jayson," April said, instantly regretting opening the door.
"Hey, sorry to show up unannounced. I heard from a friend that you were auditioning for the Philharmonic today." Jayson said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"Yeah, I audition at 12:30 today," April replied, refusing to make eye contact. They sat in silence for a couple of seconds, then Jayson cleared his throat.
"Well, I want to give you this for good luck," he said as he handed her the rose.
"Thanks," April said in a monotone voice, trying everything in her power to hint that she didn't want him there. She started to close the door, but Jayson shoved his foot in the way.
"April," He said, suddenly stopping.
"What?" April replied with an annoyed tone.
"April. I'm sorry." He said. "Please forgive me."
"How can I forgive you? We dated for 3 years, and for the last year, you were cheating on me! I saw your text messages, you were going to break up with me for that bi- "
"Please April, I made a mistake. I regret everything. I love you and want to get back together with you."
"If you really loved me, you wouldn't have cheated on me!" April yelled. Jayson looked taken back. "I loved you for 3 years, and you took advantage of my trust. I don't love you anymore, and I don't want to be with you!" April was surprised by the words coming out of her mouth. She had always wondered what she would say if Jayson came back, but she never thought the words would come out of her mouth. Jayson looked at April for a second, then finally spoke.
