Michael’s POV
On our way back home…that’s a relief. I get two full weeks with my wife before she starts the rehearsals for her tour and I’m making the most of them. I want to take her out a few times. Despite the media craziness and all, once we get to the secured place that I booked, we have the best time together. Her quirky humor challenges me and satisfies me on a mental level. She is my match in the way she thinks and judges everything around her. She is keeping me in check, preventing me to become an arrogant bastard.
All considerations aside, when the world you live in is formed of “yessir” people, you tend to lose touch with reality. I know I have an ego. I haven’t achieved everything by being obliging and saying “please” at every street corner. I am perfectly aware of what I am capable of, of how many people I influence and how easy it is to buy everyone. But not Belinda. On our first encounter I offered her the chance of a lifetime and she had the nerve to refuse me. And she cut out her own path. And when we met again, she was my equal in terms of life experience. After going through hell with all the crazy fan girls, I was confronting a woman who was unfazed about my star status and demanding me to give as much as I wanted to get from our relationship.
“Daydreaming again?” she asks pulling a short strand of hair.
“No…just thinking, baby.”
“Good thoughts?”
“The best. I was thinking about us.”
“I do that a lot. Nobody gave us a chance back in ’93. And I swore to myself I was gonna make this marriage work, just to see them biting off their nails.”
She gives me one of her evil little grins. That’s what I’m talking about – this is that quirky humor that gets me going crazy for her.
“Belinda, only you would find such a motivation for a happy family life. And that’s why you’re stuck with me for life.”
“Wow, so you didn’t even attempt to cheat me with Britney Spears? You’re getting rusty, husband dear.”
“Weeeeelllll” I trail, biting my lip, “I DID consider that, but then again, poor girl doesn’t look prepared to survive round one with me. I need a seasoned woman who knows how to take it like a champ all night long. This woman!”
I clamp my hand on her thigh and she snickers, leaning into me to kiss me.
“Go ahead, let all the plane know what a sex freak you are!” she whispers to me.
We snuck to the back of the plane for safety and privacy. The children are sleeping, stacked one next to the other on the bed in our private cabin. The guys are playing checkers and teaching our mothers the game. So we’re safe for a little PDA.
I coil my arm around her neck and bring her closer, as I kiss her back harder.
“I want to make the most of these two free weeks. So...Las Vegas or Hawaii?”
“Just the two of us?”
“One week, yes. And the other week with the kids.”
“Sounds good to me. Let’s not change time zones, though? How about Florida? There’s Disneyland over there, as well.”
“Girl, I wanna focus on you, don’t distract me!”
She starts giggling.
“Oh yeah, I forgot what a kid you become around Disneyland. Alright then...how about we stay home, send the kids ahead to Disneyland and join them later? They could go with your mother, Jermaine and his kids and Tito and his kids.”
