[Reminder: others posts are in bold, mine are in regular]
Let's start off nice and simple: how about a search for the term "gay" on urban dictionary.
Thankfully (and surprisingly), I made it about 7 pages in before I encountered any insults. Most of the pages were filled with "that's me," or "the middle school term for something dumb," or, Heavens almighty, actual proper definitions.
I figured I would first share some more educational remarks...
Got aids yet?
Look at that gay guy, does he Got Aids Yet?While it is definitely true that aids affect many gay people (70% of people with aids are gay or bisexual, according to hiv.gov, run by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services), that is not reason to poke fun at a gay person. Aids are terrible, and cause great harm. Rest in peace, Freddie Mercury. Instead, we should be supporting organizations that work towards helping people with aids and learning more about them.
1) To describe an occurrence or event that is unwanted or disliked.
2) To describe a person that is usually annoying or hard to deal with. 1) The concert sold out 5 minutes ago, that's gay
2) I don't want to deal with him, he's gay.Where do people even get these?? Gay used to symbolize happiness, being cheerful! Not annoying, or disliked. Even if gay was used in terms of unwanted events, you should never use it as an insult to another person. Why? Because that's like saying those negative traits = gay, and that all gay people have those negative traits.
Lame, not worthy of attention, waste of time, stupid or idiotic You're so gay! That was the lamest joke ever!
Incorrect. Being gay is not a bad thing. Not lame, not a waste of time, not stupid, nor idiotic. (Cough cough, unlike you.) Being gay, is a) something we cannot control, and b) fucking FANTASTIC.
Never insult someone for being gay. It is their choice of life, and it is like insulting someone because they're black, or they're an atheist.
Okay, this was a person trying to be supportive, I can see it wasn't intended to be homophobic, but I wanted to share this to educate anyone who doesn't know. Being gay is not a choice. This person was correct in saying it's like insulting someone who is black. You cannot control it. You were born that way, like how the majority of people are born straight. Religion is technically a choice - depending on where in the world you live - but it is still a gray area that largely depends on your experiences and how you were brought up.
oooookAY now that we've finally waded through all the educational shit, it's now time for some percy jackson inspired comments. (If you understood that reference, we are now best friends. Sorry, I don't make the ~ dam ~ rules.)
