"All set. Come eat guys!" Mikayla exclaimed with pride in her voice. Ah. I was so caught up with the interaction that was happening between Amelia and my sister that I did not even realize Mikayla was pacing back and forth to set up the table for all of us to eat.
I sat down opposite of Mikayla and Christina sat down next to me - Amelia across from her. I scanned the table and there were pancakes, bacon, sausages, and eggs. The smell of the fried goods were tingling into my nose causing my mouth to water.
What was Mikayla thinking, this was way too much food.
...
Or not.
Amelia has devoured her first pancake and is currently making herself a pancake sandwich with bacon and sausage in it, and covered it with maple syrup. I don't know if I'm disgusted or intrigued. Christina was watching her with awe as she was respectfully cutting up her bacon slices. Mikayla did not seem to be amused with what Amelia was doing - almost as though this is completely normal for her.
Probably is.
We all ate in silence for a few minutes before it was broken by Christina telling Amelia "If you get intoxicated and don't want to drive back home, you can stay over. There are plenty of guest rooms."
Amelia placed her now second pancake sandwich mania carefully onto the plate so none of the contents would fall out of it. She was chewing at a faster rate now so she could quickly answer my sister. Simultaneous to this, Mikayla placed her silverware down making a 'cling' sound. Before giving Amelia the opportunity to answer for herself, Mikayla looked over at Amelia and smiled at her reassuringly, letting out softly with love "I'll pick you up whenever you're done." Knowing damn well that Amelia does not sleep out of the house without her. Bless her soul. She tries as much as she can to take care of the broken girl next to her, who is failing to find appropriate ways to cure herself.
Amelia gave Mikayla a thankful smile and returned to eating her weird creation. Mikayla has been working non-stop as the company she works with scored a massive business deal with a well known corporation and Mikayla has been assigned to design the project. She's probably wishing she did not have to pick her up at 4am and struggle with her. Mikayla just loves her 'little sis' too much.
Ugh.
"I'll bring her home." I stated more than asked. Amelia ignored me as she took the final bite of her chop suey: pancake edition. Maybe she did not want to argue with me in front of my sister? "You have a lot of work tomorrow." I continued directing at Mikayla
"So do you." Mikayla said back.
"No. I have work. Not a lot." My job was way more easy going and it was almost only three days a week depending on the project.
"I'll just drive myself there and back. It's not a big deal, I don't want you to keep taking care of me." Amelia expressed while forking a sausage and concentrating on bringing it onto her plate. Holy pancake paradise, this girl can eat. Her focus on the food made it unclear on who she was directing her speech to.
"No, sweety. Just text me when you're done." Mikayla ordered.
I rolled my eyes. "I'll go to the party, that way I would be driving only one way and I can sleep here." I shifted my attention to my little sister "Besides, I have to make sure her first college party does not end up like Project X with the house on fire."
Christina laughed, then mumbled "That would be kinda cool."
I shook my head at her and turned my gaze back to Mikayla who pushed her plate slightly away from her to indicate that she finished eating. She looked at me and sighed in defeat, followed by a nod and I nodded back.
