DECEMBER EIGHTEENTH
ZACHARIAS MATTEO
PLANET EARTH
YEAR 2115

There were few things Zach absolutely disgusted like his fathers parties.

He hated everything about them, hated how he could swim around in his father's wealth. He was 31 years old, but still had to introduce himself as ‘Roger Matteo's son’, since he had no own achievement in life to ever brag about.

Even though, he was now sitting there, at his father's dinner table, discussing his latest party that was going to be held the following night.

“I’m dying, Zacharias,” his father reminded him. “Attending is the least thing you can do.”

It didn’t matter to Zach that his father was dying. His father had no feelings, at least not towards him, and Zach would get all the money anyway.

Roger had been dying for over a year, but the top doctors of the country had told him that he could die at any given moment now.

This was going to be Rogers last party. A christmas-party, since he loved christmas more than he loved his own son.

I invented it, he used to brag. Few things annoyed Zach as much.

“You are the future of NASA, do you realise how important it is for you to be there? “

Zach sighed.

“I’ll be there, but I won't dress up.”

Roger got up, sighed.

“You’re ruining your own future, I hope you are aware of that. That’s why you’re still in this house, living off off me. You should be like Annie, it would take you places.”

Zach too rose.

“Annie isn’t even your kid.”

“I’m aware,” Roger said, voice calm. “But I wish she was.”

He left, and Zach sat back down. He was glad, now that he could eat in silence.

After his meal, Zach went down the headquarter.

Roger said it was practical to live there.

Zach argues that it’s really not. But, he had to admit that old London was really tragic anyway, and this way, he didn’t have to look at the sight every time he felt like taking a walk. He often took walks, there wasn’t much else to do. Zach didn’t have a job - he didn’t have to, so it would just be a waste of time.

Zach was very lonely, but would never admit it.

“Where are you going?” Annie had stopped before him.

“Nowhere.”

“You are certainly going somewhere,” she argued. Maybe he should get a job after all, far from her.

“Why do you care?”

“Matteo wanted me to make sure that you will come dressed to the party tomorrow.”

“Well,” Zach said. “I won’t, besides, he said he wouldn’t care.”

“Oh but he does,” Annie put on the cap that she seemed to always have with her. “Are you going to look at this year's snow? They just got the machines going.”

“I will not,” he said, and instantly went the other way.

He left Annie sighing outside of Old Rockethall II.
