In the city of New York one can feel so small and so little as if they are nothing to the world, that they have no importance. The city lights and sounds of cars honking are all so over whelming and the sight of drunken fools stumbling around as well. If you take a stroll in times square one may find an arrangement of people from wannabe musicians to people in full costumes pretending to be a character out of a comic book or well whatever else they desire. Diverting down to central park you can see couples holding hands strolling through, music filling your ears and the sound of laughter as well. From designer shops to every day shops and the regular tourist shops as well can be spotted as well around town. Empire State and the statue of Liberty are sort of a big deal as well in the city and some of the other tourist spots along with the remembrance of the twin towers. This was my home, well the only home that I have known for the past 17 years the first year of my life is all a blur.
For 17 years I have lived in the city being raised by my adopted parents William and Jennifer who have been wonderful parents from the beginning. They have no idea who my birth parents are since there is no records at all, so the adoption was a very easy process, or so I was told. When we go to family outings you can tell that I am the odd one out because most of the family has dark colored hair or blonde and I stand out being the only ginger there. Luckily though I am not the only one with blue eyes quite a lot of people in the family have blue eyes and some with green as well so it works. In all my years of trying I have never been able to get a tan and have always had pale white skin and in the sun I just tend to burn just my luck. My best friend Sam gets a wicked tan and I envy her especially when her parents go down to Florida for vacation every summer for a week and she comes back with that perfect tan color. Sam and I became friends when we were in the first grade, I was the shy kid who kept to myself doodling in my book and she was very loud and outgoing. Two polar opposites but we became the best of friends and there was not a weekend that we were not together and that was the case to this very day.
After years of waiting we were finally in our senior year of high school and we had just a month left to go. Both of us have been competing head to head for valedictorian but at the end it came down to me being chosen for it. Most friendships you would assume would crumble over that but when we found out Sam was excited and thrilled and there wasn't a single fight over it. She never seemed like the one to let things get to her especially after everything that we have been through together. Sam was the perfect friend that I could ask for and no one could ever replace that no matter what happens. It just so happens as well over the summer we plan on working so we can get an apartment together as we will be attending the same college how perfect is that. Mom and dad sometimes have been worried about what would happen if we didn't get into the same college and got torn apart but luckily for us that was not the case.
" Earth to Lilly." Sam said as she shut her locker door and waved a hand in front of my face. I slightly looked at her a tad confused as I did not catch a word she had spoken as I was lost in my own thoughts again.
"Hmm?" Watching as Sam shook her head slightly and laughed as she came beside me and draped her arm across my shoulders.
" I was saying are you going to come to the football game tonight?" She asked and it was such a silly thing of her to ask. I never missed a game in fact I had no choice I had to be at every game I am on the cheer squad and well Sam is on the football team. Every game I always have her number written on my cheek cheering her on as I was her number one fan.
" Are you serious right now?" Looking at her I could see the grin on her face and I realized she was just messing with me at that point. Gasping slightly I pushed her playfully and she laughed a bit more at that and I could not help but laugh slightly at that as well.
