Lillith
I wandered off into the woods in search of flowers for Mother. She was starting to get sick again and I just wanted her to feel better. Mom and Dad always say don't go into the woods but I'm not afraid of anything! Except for spiders. They are the world's worst enemy.
I've heard the wolves' howls coming from the woods behind our small blue house. I thought they were beautiful and not scary in the slightest. Every other girl in my 1st-grade class thought that pandas and kittens were the best animals but I knew for sure that wolves were the best animals ever!
So I continued my adventure into the woods in search of worthy flowers. I crouched down to pick up a beautiful blue flower when I heard a small whimper come from under the bush next to me. Gathering my courage, I peeked under the bush.
There sat a small grey wolf with white socks and the brightest green eyes I'd ever seen. The little wolf growled slightly at me when it noticed me but I wasn't afraid because deep down, I knew it would never hurt me.
"Are you okay, Wolfie?" I questioned with concern laced in my tone. I think the wolf noticed this and crawled close enough for me to see that it had a huge thorn stuck in a sensitive part of its paw.
"Poor thing! I can pull it out but it may hurt a bit, " I warned the little wolf. Almost as though it understood, it nodded it's furry head as if to say go ahead.
"Okay, ready? 1..2...3!" The little wolf yet out a yelp as I pulled out the thorn. "I'm sorry, Wolfie. I hope it didn't hurt too bad."
The little wolf sniffed its paw and when it noticed that the thorn was missing it jumped on me and licked my face with its slobbery tongue. "Okay okay! You're welcome but you can stop slobbering all over me now!" I told the wolf with a giggle.
It calmed down and climbed off of me. It moved its head like it was telling me to sit down so I did. I don't know why I was responding to what I thought the wolf was telling me I just did. As soon as I sat down, the little wolf ran behind a tree.
"Wait Wolfie come back!" It gave me a small bark in return, so I sat back down and waited. I heard weird noises but soon a little boy with black hair walked out from behind the tree with only shorts on.
I was just confused. Where had Wolfie gone? And who was the boy? "Umm who are you?" I questioned the little boy.
He gave me a toothy grin and pointed at himself and stated, "My name's Sebastian!"
I gave him a smile and answered, "Hi Sebastian! Did you see a wolf run by you a second ago?" I really wanted to know where my Wolfie ran off to.
He looked at me confused, "Haven't you ever seen a werewolf before?" It was my turn to be confused again, "you mean like the ones in movies?"
"Well, sort of I guess... That was my wolf his name's Fenris and he wants me to say thank you for getting rid of that thorn."
I giggled, "happy I could help." I hoped Sebastian would be my friend. All of the kids at school don't really want to be my friend.
"Sebastian do you want to be my friend?" I asked him with the hope that he would say yes.
"Yeah I'll be your friend but you have to tell me your name first." He smiled at me with his goofy grin while I just stood their kind of embarrassed. "Oh sorry! My name is Lillith!"
"Okay, Lilli now that we know each other's name we can be friends!"
"Lilli?"
"Yeah, that's my nickname for you. Like it?"
I thought about it for a second and then answered him, " Yeah I like it, Bash."
He only smiled at his nickname. We ran around the forest the entire day until I heard Dad yell for me.
"I can't wait to tell Mom all about how I made a friend today!"
"Wait, Lilli, you can't tell anyone you saw me okay? I would get in a lot of trouble if someone found out I snuck out."
I was a little confused yet again but, " Okay I promise I won't tell anyone."
He smiled at me, "Do you want to come play tomorrow?"
"Yeah! See you tomorrow, Bash!" I called back to him as I ran home.
---
From that day on we were best friends. He was there for me when I had my first boyfriend and then my first heartbreak and I was there for him when he told me about how his dad, the Alpha, was making him train because he wanted him to become the next Alpha.
I slowly began to have feelings for my furry friend. As we got older he only got more attractive to me. His raven black hair and hazel eyes were enough to make any girl fall in love. Including me.
My crush on him didn't really have an effect on our friendship until August 13. His 14th birthday. That was the day he taught me a little bit more about werewolves and their culture. That was the day I learned about mates.
"Only 2 more years then I can find the girl I will love for the rest of my life." He randomly said while he was looking up at the clouds next to me. He'd been chasing me around because I said I was faster than him. I knew he could catch me in a heartbeat but it was fun to mess with him.
I was stunned. The boy that held me while I cried, who laughed at me after I fell over tree branches, the boy who had my heart was going to leave me for another girl. He wouldn't need me anymore.
I sat up with tears in my eyes. "Tha-That's great, " I said, trying to hide my sadness but of course because he knew me so well and he could probably smell my tears he asked, "Lilli, what's wrong? Are you okay? Is it," he lowered his voice into a slight whisper, " that time of the month again?"
I blushed remembering the first time I went to go see him while I was on my period. Out of nowhere, he tackled me a sniffed me until I asked him, " What the hell are you doing?!"
He looked me dead in the eye with pure concern, " Are you hurt? I can smell blood on you?" I'd never been more embarrassed in my life than when I had to explain to him what was wrong.
Apparently, she-wolves don't have a period they just go into their "heat" after they find their mate so he honestly thought I was hurt.
I just shook my head to answer his question. "Then what's wrong because that's when you usually randomly started crying?" He stated very matter of factly. I playfully slapped his arm.
"I don't want you to leave me. I need you, Sebastian." I whispered afraid of what he was going to say because I knew he could hear me. After basically growing up around a werewolf you learn to not say stuff under your breath because they WILL hear it.
Bash sat there for a second before he just hugged me. "I will never ever leave you because I need you to Lillith." That was the most serious thing I'd ever heard come out of his mouth so I believed him.
If only I knew what the future held for us. Maybe I would've held on a little longer or even a little tighter.
