I wake to the sound of my phone alarm, I reach out and turn it off. Its 8:00 AM on a Sunday, aka the worst day as I gotta go to church with my parents. I rise from the warm covers of my bed, give a good stretch and head downstairs to have some breakfast.
I see my parents already up and dressed, they are used to waking up at early hours as my dads a doctor of general health and my mums a psychiatrist. My mum says "morning my sweet-pea," in a bright tone with her long black hair done in a plait pattern. I sigh as I sit and eat my breakfast: it was a mound of granola and vegan yoghurt aka lousy fruit and cum dumpster waste.
I tuck in as I'm so hungry, but my dad just had to say something "how was your sleep, I'm glad you're still here with us." I looked at him and answered "well that's a good thing, isn't it? Also yes my sleep was good."
Dad beamed with relief, I could tell he was going to die soon as he was terminally ill with testicular cancer, a piece of me was going to get hurt when that day came. Nevertheless, I finished my breakfast and got ready for the church mass at 10:00 AM.We arrived at church early, it was a small church with the whole brainwash situation. I wasn't allowed to touch anything or it'll turn invisible so I just sat on the back pew which was always empty and slept. Luckily I slept like a dead person; silent and still.
The church mass ended an hour later, I woke up to a voice it was new; young and male with a slight Indian accent. I turn my head and see a young, short black-haired man. He spoke again "hey it's disrespectful to sleep here, joking my names Callum." He gestured his hand out for a handshake to which I was shaking with shock, my mind was racing saying 'How' a dozen times.
I think my face went pale as Callum saw me, I didn't want to faint but this was very odd. I felt socially anxious as one would do, being seen by a stranger for the first time in their life.
My hands felt sweaty, my face blushed bright red and my heartbeat like a thumping drum.
I saw my mum approach me, I mouth 'help' but Callum saw me. "Hey what's going on? You sound terrified, what's wrong?" His voice sounded concerned and empathetic. Finally, my mum spoke up, "Amelia come darling stop acting like that! Let's go home and we can discuss this later." Then the unthinkable happened, Callum got up and touched me. This was disastrous; when someone touches me they also become invisible. I panic and stutter, with my mouth dry and then I felt it, the touch of his soft hand held onto my wrist.
Then it happened, my parents shouted for everyone to evacuate. I screamed bloody murder as I blew all the windows with my scream.
I believe that as I get older I develop new powers, when I was 10 I could turn other things and people invisible just by touching them. By the age of 20, I developed a power that let me destroy anything I wished if I focussed on it but only if I was in extreme stress and screamed. That's why my parents evacuated the churchgoers, I could kill people. I collapsed to the floor panting, but I saw blood dripping from Callum. He had four large scratch marks on his right forearm, I did that, shame welcomed my presence again. I didn't even know that I did that nor remembering doing it.
But Callum spoke his voice full of sadness as he leaned down and spoke to me:
"I have never been attacked by a girl, you weren't human when you attacked me. You were a monster, normal people would run away and be traumatised but not me. I understand you are scared, but don't be afraid. I mean no harm to you."It hit me like a speeding truck, he was being kind to me. I knew he wasn't lying so I did the bravest thing of all... talk to him.
