chapter 2
my heart is pounding. as soon as the elevator arrives at the first floor I stumble out, steadying myself before I could fall face first onto the floor. I rush over to the doors and out side into the cool rain. what even was that. I lean against one of the pillars by the doors and take a deep breath.
once i calm myself down and my heart has steadied to its normal speed, I head over to my car, shoving the umbrella I didn't even use onto the back seats, and start the engine.
once I leave the city the memories of the interview flash through my mind and I cringe, feeling foolish and embarrassed. an involuntary shriver runs through my spine. surely I'm overreacting to something that isn't even there. okay, so he is very attractive, confident and at ease with himself. but on the flip side he is full of himself, arrogant and for all his impeccable manners, he's cold - well at least on the outside.
I suppose he has a right to be arrogant, he's achieved so much at such a young age.
while getting further away from Auckland, my mind continues to wonder. I'm truly confused as to what makes someone so driven to success. some of his answers were so cryptic. and the question, ugh! what even were they? who even thinks of asking someone those kinds of questions? Chloe, that's who. asking about his adoption was bad enough, but then going and asking if he was gay! I don't even know any more. I wish Chloe would have given me a brief biography first. well, at least it will be an interview I will never forget, but I'm not sure if I want to forget, or not...
*~*~*~*~*~
as I enter the apartment Chloe jumps to her feet and runs towards me, engulfing me in a bear hug.
"I was beginning to worry about you. I thought you would get back sooner." the coffee table has a mass of papers and folders on it, its obvious she been doing studying plus she's still in her flannel pajamas, which she keeps for all sorts of problems for example; breaking up with a boyfriend, illness's and just general bad days.
"really I though I did good seeming as the interview ran over" I say lifting up the recorder.
"oh kath, thank you so much! so tell me, what was he like?" here comes the Chloe parkers investigation.
"...intimidating, young, really really hot." its the only way I can describe him.
"kath!" she reaches across and slaps my arm playfully. I let out a small laugh.
I walk into my bedroom and change into some more comfortable clothes. my feet are killing me.
I keep on my jeans but change my shirt to an burgundy jumper, keep my hair in the pony tail it was in and throw on a big grey scarf. I mean its so comfy and it is fall so its cold outside.
I walk out of my room, pull my toms out of my bag and put my heels by the door.
"right I'm off. I can still make it to Harrison's."
"you've been out all day you'll be exhausted" she looks at me, concern clear in her eyes.
"I'm fine, someone's gotta get some money 'round here." I say sarcastically with a smile and walk out the house.
Harrison's is a small hardware store just outside Hamilton, and as you might of guessed, its were I work. I got the job a year ago, only because my friend, Michael. his family owns the place and they said I could work there so I thought why not, and here I am today a year later.
its been a little busy lately, seems everyone is moving houses and redecorating and I thought I could help out even if it only is a few hours.
the drive is short and sweet and in no time I'm pulling into the employees carpark.
