"Thank you and goodnight!" Squidward brags (almost) to the last customer of the night. He waves goodbye and, as he's about to head out, he realises Spongebob isn't beside him. "Alright, where are you ya little weirdo?" He talks to himself quietly. He walks through the kitchen door to see the little, freckled boy standing over the sink. The tired and concerned fast food worker eyes the other, 'what is he doing?' As Squiddy turns to his coworker's left side that's when he sees. A text from his mother... Spongebob's father had just passed away. Squidward stops in his tracks as he sees the silently bawling blond, just staring at the message. "Ahem" The taller of the two imitates a cough, a sad little cough. The fry cook spirals around, still weeping in lament, towards his neighbor. "W-What are you doing in here..?" His words are croaky and long, his bloodshot eyes and trembling hands (still holding the phone) proving it truely was Spongebob's voice. "Work is over... do you, uh, need a hug or somethi-" the crying boy leaps into the other's arms, burrowing his head into the other's chest. "WOAH! O-ok, calm down" "I-I'm so sorry... I just... my d-dad... he just-" more uncontrollable sobs bellow from the usually bubbly individual, causing the other to wrap his arms around him- attempting to create a safe space. "Shh, shh, shhh. It's alright, I know" Squidward says softly, placing his chin lightly on the other's head. "Take as long as you need, baby" Squiddy REALLY didn't mean to call him 'baby', but the other was too stressed to notice. The two stood for a few more minutes before Spongebob finally calmed down, leaving the taller male able to stop crying too. "Are you ok?" The boy's baby blue eyes were filled with worry for his friend, causing the taller of the two to laugh quietly through the tears. "Even when you've just been crying for twenty minutes, you're still worried more about others than yourself" Squiddy giggles softly, earning the large baby blue eyes full attention. Ahh, those ocean eyes... waves crashing upon Squidward's soul with every blink, he looked just as gorgeous after crying as he did normally. All Squidward wanted to do was make him feel better- loved, stop the pain welling in his neighbor's chest as the death of a loved one always seems to cause. So he did. He hugged Spongebob one last time before telling him to get some sleep and if anything went wrong to knock on Squiddy's door- no matter the time. They parted ways and didn't see each other until the next day, where Spongebob felt just a little better...
