"can you imagine a world where we never met?" asked El quietly staring at mike's pale face

"...yes." replied mike balnkly, letting his mind build a world where will never left and el was never found... it was amazing.

-- 4 years ago, 1985, november 6th, mike's imagination --

mike sat in his bed dreaming up their campaign for later that week, the paladin would sneak into a castle to rescue his cleric all alone. fighting off monsters to get to the one he loved, he would find the key and break will, the cleric out. they would stare deep into eachother's eyes and slowly drift closer as if they were pulled together by some magnetic force. then there they would stand, the paladin and the cleric kissing in the dark chambers of a cursed castle, forbidden love.

maybe just a simple treasure hunt would be better for this week where mike wouldn't end up kissing one of his friends. he knew he was too old for dnd but in this world he could be who he wanted to be and not hide it, at least when he was with will.

the next day mike found himself walking through the crowded halls of school, his mind occupied by the memories and wishes of time spent with the brown haired, green eyed boy of his dreams.

going through the motions on another cloudy november day dreaming of possibilities.

"mike?" asked a high voice from behind him "can we talk?"

"okay." said mike swallowing a sob, turning around to face his cleric

will pulled him into an empty classroom "mike..."

"i know, i shouldn't have kissed you. it was my fault." mike said looking down at his sneakers

"that's not it mike, and you know it." said will "otherwise I wouldn't have kissed back."

"what?" asked mike looking up to see the beautiful boy in front of him

"mike, i like you... alot. but i can't. it's wrong." said will a tear sliping down his cheek

"if it was wrong then why'd it feel so, so right?" asked mike stepping closer.

will let out a shaky breath reaching out to touch mike's soft skin, he let his hand settle on the back of mike's neck. mike pulled him closer, trying to ignore all of what everyone said.

taboo.

"i just feel so cold, all the time..." said will latching on to mike for dear life "you are my summer."

mike closed his eyes and let their lips collide, mike always knew it was will, it was always will.

-- present day, 1989, july 12, the real world --

"it's terrible." mike lied
