After a good long while, Appletail finally sat down. She'd shown the kits all the landmarks of camp, from Tallrock in the Meeting Hollow to the Hunting Stones to the open and closed dens for warriors. They'd finished with the Apprentice's den, and by now it was nearing midday.
Appletail got back to her paws as soon as she set the kits down. "I am going to get a mouse for myself. Stay out of trouble!" She said.
The kits had scrambled off of their mother's back eagerly and walked around. Nimblekit churned the dirt beneath his tiny paws. The ground was so... groundy! It felt so good to be standing in the open, wind blowing through his fur and the ground beneath his paws. He just needed to run!
But as he tried, he flopped on the ground in an odd manner. "Haha!" Jeered Gorsekit, who was walking out of the nursery with his brother Falconkit, who had recently woken up (he was a late sleeper).
"Trying to run, huh?" Laughed the more chubby Falconkit. "Next thing we know he'll be trying to fly!"
They loomed up against Nimblekit. "Nimblefall! Nimblefall!" They chorused.
Suddenly Breezekit stepped in, along with Wolfkit close behind (who was a lot more nervous). "Hey!" She shouted. "Don't talk to our brother like that!"
Gorsekit laughed. "And what are you going to do, step on us?" They jeered more and Wolfkit cowered down a bit, but Breezekit held her ground. "Get out of our way." Gorsekit then pushed Breezekit off her feet, landing with an 'oof.'
"Leave us ALONE!!" Nimblekit yelled from behind. "You big bullies!" He then proceeded to extend his claws and scratch Gorsekit's nose.
The scratch on his nose began to bleed. Seizing his chance, and giving a smirk, he fell to the ground dramatically and wailed out, "Mother, Mother! Help! Nimblekit scratched my nose and it's bleeding!"
Jaggedfur proceeded to rush out of her den. Just as she was about to get there, a tall, lean, brown-golden Tom stepped in. "Gorsekit. Falconkit." Suddenly the two kits shrank down. "I saw it all. The way you treated these poor kits. And I warn you to never, ever, do that again." He paused. "Especially not my kits."
Jaggedfur gave a nod of appreciation and dragged Gorsekit and Falconkit off into her den, where she would punish them for their rude behavior.
Quailfoot turned around, looking at his children. "Dad!" Nimblekit exclaimed. "That was brilliant!"
"Slow down, you little lion," Quailfoot laughed. "That was very brave of you, my boy," he said. "But we don't always want to use our claws. Try keeping them contained next time!"
Nimblekit looked up at his father. He was muscular but sleek, and had long fur that was easily ruffled in the gentle breeze. His kind golden eyes gazed down upon his child, and Quailfoot looked so majestic. I want to be like him when I'm a warrior. " I won't!" Nimblekit promised.
"Good," Quailfoot purred. "Correction of yourself is part of what makes a good warrior. And I know all of you will be great warriors one day." The kits the tackled down their father and had an adorable kit fight. I will be a great warrior, and Dad believes in me too!
A shorter chapter, but nonetheless a decent one. And it was a part 2 so there was that XD
