*Maya's POV*

When I wake up, the first thing I hear is the sound of a door swinging open. Then, a loud gasp. My eyes open quickly, only to find that the entire world is blurred. I blink a few times, trying to focus my vision.

That's when I realize I am laid in the back garden of my best friend, Sophie Pottwell. Her mum is stood over me, her eyes wide, with one hand held over her mouth.

"Um... Hi, Mrs Pottwell? What am I doing here?" I try to act as casually as possible, but an awkward silence overcomes us both as Sophie's mum just stares at me with a shocked expression on her face. I shield my eyes from the sun as I look up at her, waiting for her to reply.

"Somehow, I think I should be the one asking you that question, Maya," she says sternly, placing her hands on her hips. Mrs Pottwell has never liked me much, ever since I accidentally almost got me and Sophie arrested one time.

"Well... I... Erm..." I stop. The events from last night suddenly come flying back to me. The fight between me and Matt. The tears. Then, the alcohol. After that, the memories from last night become hazy, yet I vaguely remember stumbling through the streets at around midnight, winding up in Sophie's back garden. After that, I must have passed out because I don't remember anything else.

"Maya?" I snap out of my daze and look up. Sophie's mom is still stood over me.

"Oh. I... uh... had another fight with Matt last night," I mumble quietly, averting my eyes from her persistent stare. "It was late, so I figured I'd walk over to your house. I'd had a few drinks, so I must have passed out. I'm sorry Mrs Pottwell. I'll go home now."

I begin to stand up. My entire body aches as I have been laid on the ground all night. My head is pounding and my throat is extremely dry. Suddenly, my legs buckle and Sophie's mum has to hold out an arm to steady me.

Her voice suddenly softens, "You need to stop doing this, Maya. He isn't any good for you. You have enough problems without having to deal with Matt too," she sighs, "Come inside and I'll help clean you up. I'm sure you'll want to speak to Sophie too."

I notice I have a scrape on my knee. I had probably fallen as I climbed the garden fence last night. It begins to bleed as Mrs Pottwell helps me up, puts an arm around my shoulders and guides me into the house.
