*Maya's POV*

I enter Sophie's house, with Mrs Pottwell's arm still tight around my shoulders. Sophie's mum hasn't ever asked to be called Mrs Pottwell, but she is very strict and proper, so I feel like I should.

"Sit here," she says, waving her hand towards the living room. "I'll go and wake Sophie." She walks out of the room and I can hear her climbing the stairs. I perch awkwardly on the edge of her expensive looking sofa and I look around the pristine living room. I haven't been in this room before. Usually, me and Sophie would hang out in her room, or we would go to my house instead. Well, before my parents kicked me out.

"Oh my gosh! Maya, what happened?"

I look up and a very sleepy looking Sophie is stood in the doorway. She's wearing pajamas with little cats all over them and her hair is a birds nest. I'd almost forgotton it's 6am yet she still looks amazing even at this time of the morning. Sophie has always been the prettier one out of the two of us. She is petite and curvy, with long dead straight black hair and bright blue eyes. I'm kind of boring looking, with wavy brown hair and green eyes. Guys usually flirt with her at parties, while I stand awkwardly to the side, keeping my head down. Now I have Matt though, and he is more than I could ever ask for, even though we've started fighting a lot lately.

"I had another fight with Matt. He walked out so I sat and got drunk. Then I heard him come back so I came here. I passed out in your garden. I'm sorry." My eyes begin to fill with tears and I try wipe them away quickly, but Sophie sees me and pulls me into a tight hug.

"It's okay," she says softly, "it could have ended worse. We both know what Matt is like lately. You need to end it with him, Maya. He isn't any good for you."

I sigh and nod, knowing that she's right. "I thought he was the one, you know? He was so sweet at first but lately he's been getting worse."

"I know," Sophie says, running a hand through her messy hair, "but he's gotten you into some really bad habits, Maya."

I have a history of depression and self harm. Matt started taking me to these parties where I didn't know anyone, and I'd gotten into drugs, smoking and drinking, mainly to act as a distraction to help me forget my depression for a while. These habits sometimes made everything worse. My therapist tells me I should stop but it's difficult.

Sophie has been best friends with me from the start, and she has stuck by me through thick and thin. I know I should be listening to her advice about Matt, but I do really love him. We just have our ups and downs.

"I don't know Sophie," I say, looking down at my hands, " Maybe I should give him one more chance and things between us could get better."I sit back down on the sofa, putting my head in my hands. Sophie slumps down next to me, sighing loudly.

"If I were you, I'd end it with him. But it's up to you, I guess. If you want to give him another chance then I'm not stopping you but remember what I said."

"Okay." I say quietly.

"Do you want some cereal and a cup of tea or something?" She suddenly asks, getting up off the sofa. I nod and she walks into kitchen and starts making breakfast. When she's done, she brings 2 bowls and 2 mugs into the living room. We eat our cereal in silence and when we're finished, Sophie takes the empty bowls and mugs back into the kitchen.

"Do you want to borrow some clothes?" Sophie asks and I nod and follow her upstairs. She hands me some leggings and a T-shirt and I shower and tie my hair back into a ponytail. Then I put on the clothes that Sophie gave me and walk downstairs. She is now dressed, sat watching the TV in the living room. I sit down next to her.

"Feel better?" She asks, smiling.

"Yeah, thanks for everything." I answer, smiling back at her.

"No problem, that's what friends are for." I hug her and then we sit watching TV for awhile. Suddenly, there's a knock at the door.

"I'll get it." Sophie says, getting up and answering the door. I can hear her speaking to someone but I can't understand what she's saying. She reappears, with an angry look on her face and says, "It's for you."

I get up, confused, and walk down the hall to see who it is. That's when I realize why Sophie is so angry.

It's Matt.
