Finally here-with bad news

I felt a mix of emotions after I had them. Relief because it was finally over, joy because I finally had my babies and I couldn't wait to see them. Also worry incase something is wrong with either of them. I was just lying in my hospital bed, taking slow deep breaths. the doctor handed me a baby. It was Haley, she had dark blue eyes which I knew would change colour and small amount of light brown hair on her head. I kissed her forehead.

"Can you get Reece?" I asked the doctor. She nodded and poked her head through the door. Reece rushed in and smiled at me. He sat in the chair next to my bed.

"Hey babe. Who's this little cutie?" he asked looking at Haley.

"Haley Savannah Mastin, you gorgeous daughter."

"Who's mother is just as gorgeous,"

Something hit me and my smile faded. "What about the boy?" I asked the doctor and she bit her lip.

"I'm sorry to say that your son didn't make it Miss Starsile." she said and my heart dropped into my stomach.

"What?" I said in disbelief.

"We couldn't save him I'm sorry ma'am."

I looked at Reece and saw his eyes full of tears, crying for the son - his son - that he never got to meet.

"Considering that Haley was born early we need to take her into intensive care so we can run some tests to check her health and if she's fine then you can leave in a few days." the midwife told me.

I nodded and reluctantly gave her my baby. I didn't want to leave my little girl after what happened to her brother. Her and the doctor left the room with a squirming baby in their arms. Reece sat up on the bed next to me and allowed me to cry into his chest. I had my arms wrapped around his neck and he had one arm around my waist and one stoking my hair soothingly.

"Why Reece? Why him? Why our son?" I don't know why I asked a question that has no answer.

"I don't don't know baby. But we just have to trust he has gone to a better place." Reece said, his voice shaky and weak. I can't believe it, he's gone, forever.
