Screaming

We were all happy and having fun. That is until we heard the screaming. It was female, that's for sure. But the only other female in the house was my mom...but she's supposed to be at aunt Sarah's house helping after her knee surgery. Who was screaming?

Charles, James and I share a fearful look before all hell breaks loose. "I'll go check what that was! You stay here with Charles!", he said at the exact time I say, "You and Charles stay here while I go see what's going on!" "Are you insane?! We both know this has something to do with Jared. He'll beat the sh*t out of you!" He said. "Language!" Charles screeched. " Sorry, but you and Ashy are staying here. " I grimace at the nickname he still used. You see when Charles first started speaking he called me "Ashy"...with an annoying brother it just kinda stuck. Before James could leave I ran out of the room so as to, A) figure out what was happening and, B) so that James and Charles won't get hurt. "Ashley get back here!" James whisper shouted. "Nope!" I said popping the "p". I quickly ran down the stairs only to see what I dreaded seeing.

"Mom!" I shout running to her unconscious body, shoving Jared out of the way. I check her pulse and let out a sigh of relief when I find that it's still there. "You!" I shout at Jared . I stand up and start walking over to him, fully intending to give him a piece of my mind, only to be slapped on the face and get thrown into the wall. "You b*tch! You think you can come in and start running at me like a rabid animal?! You're getting to be very annoying! Everything would be perfect right now if you weren't here! I wouldn't have to pay for your wasting of perfectly good food! I wouldn't have to worry about your sh*tty needs and wants! 'ooh mommy can I go p*ss off Jared? Ooh mommy look at me! I'm sooo special! I see things no one else sees! But don't worry I don't need to go to the loony bin!' Ugh! Your just unnecessary!" That's when I lost it. I lunged at Jared catching him by surprise but he quickly recovers and rolls over to where he's on top of me. I quickly knee him in the crotch and jump up and while I have the chance I slam a pan onto his head.

I nudge his shoulder and realise he's unconscious. I grab a rag, run cold water over it, and ran over to my mom. After a few seconds of wiping her face with the rag and shaking her she wakes up wide-eyed and fearful. "It's okay! He's out but we need to hurry. Come on, get up!" I say quickly and quietly. She nods and I help her up. Realisation slowly creeps across her face as she looks at Jared then me then the pan then me then Jared again. "Well okay then. Let's go." I'm kinda shocked by her reaction but I don't say anything as we run upstairs. We separate from each other as she goes to her room to pack and I go to James' room to get the boys. They jump as I barge into the room. "Hurry! Pack! Now!" I say as I run to my room.

When I get there I grab some clothes, my toothbrush, my phone, ear buds, a few sketch books and pencils and shove them all into my backpack. I dash to mom's room to see if she needed help. When she noticed me she said, "Go help your brothers." I nod and head to Charles' room to grab his clothes and a few toys to keep him occupied for when we get to...wherever we're going. When I'm done we run to James' room to help but he's already done. We all head to mom's room to see a sight that caused my stomach drop and my blood to run cold.

There to the right of us is my mom. To the left of us is Jared. Awake. With a gun. Pointed at my mother. Then everything happens in slow motion. James grabs Charles and runs down stairs. We've had a silent agreement that if anything happens whoever's closer to him takes Charles to safety. Then when I try to move to get to my mother or downstairs, he pulls the trigger. I scream. And scream. And scream. He turns to point the gun at me but I run. And run. And run.
