I walked in and I walked straight out.
Shit, shit, shit. This could not be happening. Here in the middle of Nowheresville, North Carolina, were five people that I never wanted to see again.
The club was practically vibrating from the intense music blasting out of the speakers and the people swaying, made me want to throw up. It was weird North Carolina was not exactly known for its obsession with Dubstep music, but in this club they were playing it like they made it. The crowds of faceless individuals all meshed together and all swayed to the same rhythm, making me lose my way.
Out of nowhere a hand grabbed me from the left and latched onto my arm.
“What the hell, Juno?!” A voice screamed in my ear.
“Let go of my. Fucking. Arm.” I screamed back, trying to wrench my arm out of the tight grip.
The person didn’t relent and started dragging me towards the back exit. It was so dark except for the flashes of neon strobe lights that occasional lit up random faces. It didn’t matter if I yelled for help; these people were so high, they’d be lucky they remembered their own Mammas in the morning.
A hot gust of wind hit my face as a door opened and I got dragged out and thrown to the dirty alley ground. My eyes slowly adjusted to the small street lamp flickering in the corner and I looked up.
“What the fuck do you want, Ian?” I said re-adjusting my blonde hair.
“You have got to be kidding me. Juno. Have you lost your damn mind?”
At this point all five of them were surrounding me looking like they had no intention of letting me up. I smiled and looked straight into Ian’s eyes.
“Please, you know damn well that I lost my mind a long time ago.” I said with a smirk and leaning forward. “I’m bat fucking crazy!”
“God, Juno, what the hell happened to you?” Said a familiar bright blonde girl named April. “After it happened, we went back to the house and you had packed yourself up and gone without a trace. Then, three years later we all get letters from you telling us to meet you here.”
“I didn’t send those letters.” I said looking away.
“Then who did, Juno?” said a quiet calm voice from the left. Joseph. God I couldn’t do this. I can’t do this. Lying to the only people who ever loved me. But I have to; it’s the only way to keep them safe.
“Well, isn’t this a beautiful reunion! Really it brings a tear to my eye.” I said slowly getting up, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “You know, I really wish I dressed up and made you guy’s dinner or something. You know, the true southern way.”
“Alas, I have to go. I know contain your sadness, please you know I’m not good with goodbyes.” I said with a laugh.
“Juno, this isn’t a joke.” Said Ian, with that signature stern voice of his. “We need to know what happened that day.”
“I’ll tell you what happened that day, you fucking bastard.” I practically growled at him, getting right up in his face. “A part of me died along with the only two people on this entire fucking world, who I cared about.”
“Stop it Juno, your scaring me!” said a small voice belonging to a mouse haired 16 year- old named Jamie.
“Well maybe its right about time you grew up a little, my love.” I said turning around quickly. “Because sometimes in this life things are scary and there are people who are scary and there are people who want to hurt you. And you have to fucking deal with it.”
“Stop it, Juno.” Said Zack a football player built, 17 year-old. He stepped in front of Jamie like I was going to hit her.
“You know what.” I said, looking at all of them in turn. “I didn’t ask for you guys to be here, I didn’t want you guys to be here and I sure as hell do not want you guys to stay here. So I kindly bid you farewell.”
I shoved pass Ian and stormed all the way out the alley, to where my bright red convertible was waiting. I cranked up the volume as high as it went, opened up all the windows and rode off into night.
