“What? Juno, these are your brothers and sisters?” Steve looked at me in disbelief. At this point the whole diner was looking our way. I had made myself quite a reputation in this quiet little town and if you knew anything about little towns, it’s that news spreads fast.

“They’re my adopted brothers and sisters.” I said trying to find the words to explain. “We’re not blood related or anything, I don't even consider them my brothers and sister. We all just got adopted into the same big family. No big deal.”

“No big deal?” piped up Amy Johnson a random neighbour. “You told us you had no one and that your parents and siblings abused you everyday, so you came back to North Carolina.”

Double shit.

“Are you kidding me? Juno, you told people Mom and Dad abused you?” April said looking at me with hurt. “That is the most vile thing I have ever heard.”

She stormed out of the diner and I could see her lighting a cigarette outside. I had half the mind to go and join her.

“Look I don’t have to explain my self to no-one okay! I am independent, I make my own living and I was living a happy life before you assholes came and fucked it up. I don’t know who told you I lived here or who gave you those letters but I tried years to separate myself from you and it worked, until now.”

I stormed out wiping angry tears from my eyes.
