"What are you talking about? How do you know about that?" Serena asks her brother.
"I was with Kira and I heard Rafi talking about it."
Kira is Rafi's youngest daughter and she's just a couple months younger than Rakon, so they always play together. Especially after they both started controlling water.
"Who's going to be executed?"
"Some fugitives. Three of them I think. I heard they were on the run for a few years but they were finally caught. And they're going to be executed in two days."
"Why? Why were they on the run?"
"They're those freaks who can control all the elements."
In Elementia it's not allowed for someone to be able to control all the elements. Whoever has this kind of power is executed, because it's considered dangerous for someone to have so much power over everything. Serena never understood or agreed with that rule.
"It's not their fault that they're like that." Serena says. "They shouldn't be executed just because they're different."
"They're not different, they're freaks."
"Stop saying that!" Serena yells. "They're just more powerful than other people."
"Yeah, and it's not allowed."
"But how can someone be punished for something they can't control? It's not like they decided to be like this!"
"You're so annoying. I should have known that you wouldn't like it."
"Of course I don't like it!"
"Whatever." Rakon says and leaves Serena's room.
Serena has no idea how but she feels like she needs to help those prisoners. It's not fair what's happening to them. They shouldn't even have to run and hide because of this, let alone be executed.
Than night Serena can barely sleep, worrying about the people who are going to be executed. She spends the night trying to figure out what to do to help them but she knows she can't do it alone. It's a good thing Kiana is coming to the palace on the next day.
Kiana doesn't work in the palace anymore. After her ceremony she could choose what she wanted to do, from the jobs that her class allows, and she decided to be a doctor. She has always wanted to be a doctor. So, now she's studying to be a doctor and only visits Serena in her free time.
When the sun rises, Serena gets out of bed and heads to the kitchen. She can never start her day with an empty stomach. She's not supposed to enter the kitchen, because it's a place for servants, but she doesn't really care. She doesn't like to wait for the table to be set and for the food to be served. She grabs a couple slices of carrot cake and a glass of orange juice and leaves the kitchen.
Serena starts eating on the way to her room and sees Kiana walking in front of her.
"Kiana!" She calls with her mouth full. She finishes chewing and swallows the piece of cake that was in her mouth. "Kiana, hey."
"Hi, Princess." Kiana says.
"I already told you a million times not to call me princess. It's just Serena. I mean, you don't even work here anymore."
"You're still my Princess."
"Fine. I command you not to call me princess anymore." Serena says and Kiana laughs.
"Okay. As long as there's no one else watching."
"Deal."
"So, what do you want to do today, Serena?" She emphasizes Serena's name. "Do you want to go practice?"
