"Dean!" John calls.
Dean runs into the nursery.
"Take your sister and run. Don't look back just run," John orders settling Maddie into little Dean's arms.
Dean clutches her to his chest as he quickly and carefully makes his way from the house and to the curb. He sits and rocks gently with her in his arms.
"It's okay. It's okay. It's all okay. I've got you. Big brother's got you. Everything's okay," Dean coos.
John emerges from the house with Sammy in his arms just as the fire in the nursery explodes and uses his body to cover all of the kids from the backlash. When the authorities show John makes sure the kids are safely in the hands of paramedics before speaking with the cops. After answering all the questions he gathered the kids and found a hotel for the night.
Days turned to weeks as John drowned himself in the bottle and attempted to care for the kids usually passing it off on Dean when it got to be too much for him to handle. After speaking with a psychic named Missouri, John decided to go hunting for the thing that killed his wife. First he had to figure out what to do with the kids.
"Babe, can we talk?" Bobby asks gently.
"What about?" Karen asks stiffly.
"I know what I said about starting a family upset you and I wanna try and make it up to you. An old army buddy of mine called. He just lost his wife and he needs to go on a business trip. He asked if we could look after his kids while he was gone. I said I'd talk to you and we'd give him a decision after he got here. I figured we could use this as a trial run or learning experience. If everything goes okay maybe we can have a few," Bobby says.
"You're really going to give this a chance?" she asks hopefully.
"Babe all I want is to see you happy. I just need to assure myself that I won't turn out like my old man," Bobby says.
"If this will help you feel sure then I'd be happy to help out. How old are they?" she asks.
"The oldest is Dean he's 4 and then there's Sam and Risa who are 7 month old twins. Dean hasn't talked since the fire. We'll need to give him some time to adjust," Bobby says.
"Wow, so young. Does he really have to leave? These are some of the most important years of their lives," Karen says.
"He said that he didn't really have a choice. He needs more money than they have in order to pay for repairs on the house and until then they'd just be staying in a motel and that's no life for kids," Bobby says.
"I agree. Well, hopefully it won't be long. These kids need their dad, they already lost their mom," she says.
"I know, but we'll give them the love and care they need," Bobby says.
With that they continued to go about their day as usual while keeping an eye out for the Winchester's. The sun was just setting in the sky and Bobby had just finished washing up for dinner when John pulled into the drive. Bobby met him as he stepped out of the car.
"Thanks for having us Bobby. I know I asked quite a lot of you but this should be good practice for you guys. I'll stick around for a couple days if you both agree to help you out with the twins' schedule. They're actually really good. Dean still won't talk though but he helps out with the twins," John says.
"I talked with Karen and she agreed but how long are you planning on being gone? Your kids should really be with you as much as possible, especially while they're still young," Bobby says.
