Tyler's POV

My eyes widen when they land on the red eyed beast in front of me. My body stiffens as it goes into fight or flight mode. My body trembles under it's gaze.

I slowly examine it's stance. Tail between it's legs, ears down, head lowered, pleading eyes. My eyes trail down to the bear trap clamped down on it's leg.

"Oh my God," I blurt out startling both of us. I quickly take a few steps closer trying to help but quickly realize my mistake and back off.

"Here, let me help you," I plead. I crouch down to it's level. I cock my head. It looks similar to a black bear but has features of a wolf. I slowly connect the pieces. It looks like a twilight wolf. No, it can't be. Werewolves aren't real. I snap myself out of my thoughts and slowly take a small step closer staying at the same level.

It relaxes and slowly lays down allowing me full access to the bear trap. I continue moving until I'm a few feet away. I carefully sooth the fur of it's back with one hand while I use my other one to figure out the trap.

I know I read somewhere on how to release one. I close my eyes and picture the steps. After a few minutes I remember.

I pull my lip into my mouth and chew on it as I find the levers

I pull my lip into my mouth and chew on it as I find the levers. I stand and allow my fingers to glide through it's black fur before placing one foot on one of the levers. I use all my weight to push it down. I struggle for a moment before getting the pin to hold the spring closed. I carefully move to the other one. I carefully do the same as the other side. After a few minutes the pin is in place.

I mutter compliments and soothing words to the giant wolf as I use all my strength to pry the jaws of the trap open. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I finally got it open enough for the wolf to pull its leg out.

It immediately stood up from the position it had been laying in for the past ten minutes while I was getting it out of the trap. It lipped a few steps away before collapsing. It's back heaved up and down.

I cautiously approach the wolf again. I slowly sat down next to its head feeling some how safe near it. I carefully thread my fingers through it's fur again. It's head lifted off the leaf covered ground to look at me. Its red eyes a shade warmer than before. It gently laid it's huge head in my lap whining quietly. It closed its eyes and quieted down once I moved my hand to its head and gently smoothed the fur down.

The sun just barely peaked above the trees when I hear it. My eyes flicker around trying to find the source of the rustling. It was coming from all directions. I glance down at the wolf's head in my lap. It's eyes were still closed but its ears were perked. My head whipped to the side when a dark growl filled the quiet forest.

I immediately stood, reaching into my back pocket where I had slipped my pocket knife yesterday. If the growl came from anything like what was just laying it's head in my lap, then I would be dead meat. I pulled his knife out and flicked the blade open. I watched my surroundings and noticed three huge shadows circling me and the wolf who was still resting like nothing was happening.

Two of the shadows got closer. I swallowed realizing what they were.

Sorry for the long wait for this chapter. I hope you all had a good thanksgiving if you celebrate and if not I hope you enjoyed the 28th. I personally don't love the origins of the holiday but I do think that giving thanks for things in your life is a good thing to celebrate.

Hopefully I'll have the next chapter out within a week,

~C
