A few weeks have passed and the boys have another mission. As they were gearing up, Bane started barking. "Ky go check on the dog. He don't bark for nothing." Nodding towards his brother the younger left to do as asked. A gun in hand, he peeked through the curtains. Seeing only their own truck sitting in the driveway. He glanced through a few more windows and still seen nothing. The wolfhound now by his side was silent but showed signs of being on guard. Ears up and eyes staring in the direction of the bedrooms.
Something caught Bane's attention and he hurried down the hallway. Alerting Kyran that he was hunting whatever it was that was back there. He tapped his foot on the floor three times informing Cage of the intruder. Hearing a clicking noise the younger brother went after the dog. As he got close he seen the canine staring intently at his bedroom door. Slowly he reached for the door knob as he trained the gun at head level. With a quick twist of his wrist he opened the door. He rushed the room with Bane close on his heels.
In the dark Kyran checked the room and when a breeze caused the curtains to move he knew someone or something was in the room with them. In a flash something odd hit him yet he couldn't see it. It seemed to wrap around him like a thick blanket. Barely able to hear the wolfhound growling at his side. He knew something was wrong now. Unable to yelled for his brother he struggled to move his hand to command Bane. A whine broke free from the big dog as he turn and ran out of the room. As this invisible wrap tightened around him his eyes caught something glowing. Sight beginning to blur, breath being hard to get and his head was feeling fuzzy. It seemed like hours but in reality it was only minutes when Cage came rushing the room. A flash from the gun's muzzle was the only light. Two more shots and Kyran fell to the floor gasping for breath. That invisible suffocating blanket no longer wrapped around him, his brother now looking around the room with the light on. "You ok Ky? What do you remember seeing? Did you hear anything?" Still looking for anything to indicate what was just in there with them but finding nothing.
"Just glowing things, maybe eyes and they didn't say anything that I can recall. Then again it did something so I couldn't breath, feel, hear or speak. Hell my sight was getting all blurry likely to not being able to breath." Gasping the let his breathing evening out now as he glared at the window. "What was that thing?" More to himself though Cage heard the touch of fear in his voice. "It could be best to talk to Zex and see if he knows what it could have been. I'm going to hit the books to try and get an idea." Leaving the room they continued to pack their bags for the mission.
When the door opened a tiny excited voice called out. "We're home now! Got lots of yummy num nums too!" As she walked around the corner she frowned at the duffle bags. Zex walked right passed them and into the kitchen to unload the groceries. "You boys be careful out there tonight ok?" He walked back out to the car.
"You guys are leaving? Where are you going?" Amy wondered over to them but stopped when she seen Bane laying oddly quiet. Zex came back through with another arm load. "Mr. Zex, what's wrong with Bane?" Stopping short of the kitchen doorway. He glanced towards the wolfhound then at the boys. "What's wrong with Bane?" A scowl on his face as he sat down the grocery bags. "Something attacked Kyran and Bane was in the room too. He came running out here whining so I went to save Ky. I didn't really think anything of it until now." Zex was now checking over the big canine and found nothing physically wrong. He patted the hound's head then went back to put up the food. Once done he came back and sat on the couch. "Tell me what happened and in full detail, now."
After they retold what had happened he sat there just watching Bane. Zex shook his head with disbelief. "Nothing should be able to get through my protection spell unless it is more powerful than me? That might be greatly concerning in this case. I'm going to try and find anything it may have left behind after using magic in my home. I don't like knowing that I have been bested in my arts." A scowl on his face he glanced at Bane again. "I really don't like that they caused Bane so much distress that he is like this either. I hope you boys take my protection charms tonight. No telling if it may try and attack you guys again." The boys nodded as they continued to get their things ready. "That's scary Zex. A bad monster got in here and they are leaving for who knows how long. You think we will be safe here without my brothers?" The older man looked at her a bit hurt but smiled. "We will be fine. We have my magic and a strong werewolf to protect us. Bane might be up to it later on." He smiled bigger at Amy as she grinned and nodded. "Ok yeah we can take care of Bane if that monster comes back here." She had on her best warrior face on as she went and disappeared into her room.
