TW: platonic/ parental moxiety, cute kid Virgil, adoption, basically fluff to its core.

It had taken months to go through the process. Patton had wanted his future son to be comfortable first. He fostered him first, slowly introducing him into Patton's life. First showing him around the house, introducing one or two friends at a time. Let him set up the room, choose the colors, who could've guessed that the small little boy who wore dark clothes liked the lightest shade of purple you could find.

Oh, Virgil was the perfect child. It had taken awhile to get him to open up, but when he did! It was amazing! Once he realized that Patton wasn't like his other homes things went much smoother. The first time he had seen Patton with his nails polished he had lit up like a Christmas tree!

"What's that?" His little voice was so soft and curious.

"What?" Tiny little fingers pointed to the slightly messy nails of Patton's right hand, the one Virgil was holding as they went to the store. "Oh! It's nail polish! I like how it makes my hands look and it's my favorite color!" He had the bottle he had work that day in a box of keepsakes he had, it represented every step he had taken with Virgil. This was one of the biggest.

"Nail. Polish," the way he said the words, he was too pure, "I thought boys couldn't wear nail polish? That's what Duke told me," duke. One of Virgil's last homes, and not one of the better ones either.

"Well, Duke was wrong. Boys and girls and non-binary people can do whatever they want! Do you wanna wear some?" They had gotten inside now, Virgil was nodding so hard his head might pop off, "How about when we're done you can pick out a few colors yourself! They've got some nail polishes over towards the tooth paste and stuff."

"Can I get purple?"

"Of course! Now come on, the sooner we're done the sooner we can get it!" He was so happy! He right up and hugged Patton, oh it was one of the happiest moments!

This was all a dream come true! It had taken awhile for Patton to work up the courage to ask. Virgil had been ten when he finally had.

"Virgil, can I talk to you?" A look of fear had flashed across his face, "no! You're not in trouble! I just wanna ask you something. Let's sit down," Virgil had followed him to the table and they sat there in awkward silence for a minute.

"Um, I wanted to ask you, well- I've- I've been fostering you, for awhile and I've really gotten to know you, and care about you. I've learned so much about you that I'm so glad I did. I know that you might not want this, and you can absolutely say no, but, Virgil. Do you think I could adopt you?"

"Yes! Yes! I'd love that Patton!"

"Yes?" That has been a serious weight taken off his chest.

All of that brought them to now. Standing in front of this big building, holding hands like they had when they had walked into the store.

"Ready?"

"How could I not be? I've been waiting for this my whole life!" With that, Virgil had dragged him inside to their appointment.

The papers all signed, officially, legally, they were now a family. They went out with a few friends for dinner and games, but left soon. Right when Virgil start getting a little over sensitive to all the sounds and lights and people. So now they were in a car with some light music playing.

"Was there anything else you wanna do kiddo? Anything! Well except for like illegal stuff. But other than that."

"Um, yeah. Can we make cake? I like cake." So they made a beautiful purple icing cake with rainbow insides and blue sprinkles.

This was finally what they had been waiting for for years.
