"What do you mean, you don't know the identity. I have just told you. His name is Alec Lightwood!"

Luke could feel himself getting frustrated with the nurse that was checking Alec in to the hospital.

"He doesn't have any identification on him."

"Then I guess someone stole it before I found him, but I have just told you who he is!"

Luke slammed his hands onto the desk, but the woman didn't even flinch. He knew how unprofessional he was right now, but with everything Alec had been through, he just wanted something too go right for him. And contacting the parents that Alec had a strained relationship with, was probably not the best idea.

"Sir, you have to calm down. It is not enough that you say his name, we need his social security number too."

The small woman in front of him was calm but firm. Even though he was a lot bigger than her, he had no doubt she would stand her ground no matter how much he complained

Sighing Luke gave in and picked up his phone. He had to contact Alec's family. Finding his mothers name and number was no problem. Perks of being an officer.

"Maryse? This is Luke Garroway. Alec is at the hospital, and I need his social security number. No no, you don't need to come down here. I've got it cov... Hello?"

Luke stared at his phone in disbelief. She had hung up on him. That was not something he was used to.

Now there was nothing left to do than wait.

The way Maryse burst through the hospital doors, almost startled Luke. she rushed towards him, her entire body signaling do-not-mess-with-me-right-now.

"Mrs. Lightwood? I'm Luke Garro..."

"Where is he? Where is my boy?"

Maryse ignored Luke's extended hand and rushed past him to the reception desk.

Talking a deep breath, Luke walked up to Maryse once more and introduced himself.

"Mrs. Lightwood. My name is Luke, and I was the one who called you. If you'll let me, I'll take you to the nurse that is checking in Alec. She needs some information."

Maryse nodded franticly and he showed her the way.

"Excuse me? This is his mother, Maryse Lightwood."

The nurse stood next to Alec's bed, checking his vitals. Maryse rushed passed her.

"Oh my god. My baby..."

Grabbing Alec's hand, she squeezed it tight. Luke pulled up a chair for her to sit in.

"Mrs.? Could you tell me the identity of this man?"

She kissed the back of his hand before taking a pen and paper, writing down his social security number and handing it to the nurse.

"Here. And his name is Alexander Gideon Lightwood. Now could you please tell me what is wrong?"

"In just a minute. The doctor has to see him first."

Then the nurse walked out, checking Alec into their system.

-------

The white room brought back sad memories when Alec finally opened his eyes. He remembered last time all too well. This time something was different. It was only his mother that sat sleeping in the chair next to his bed. Robert was nowhere to be seen and neither was Izzy or Magnus.

Magnus...

The memory of Magnus standing with Jonathan made it difficult for him to breath. When he tried to sit up, his head felt like it was going to exploded. A silent groan escaped his lips, but it was enough to wake up his mother.

"Honey. You are awake. Oh, thank God. I was so scared!"

Maryse pulled Alec gently into an embrace as warm and loving as only a mother could do.

"Where... Where is Robert?"

His voice was raspy and low because of his dry throat. At first, he thought that she hadn't heard him and wanted to repeat the question, but then he caught a glimpse of a tear in the corner of her eye. He took her hand and gave it a light squeeze.

"He's not here. I'm sorry sweetie. You father is gone. I don't know where. He's just gone. He left me..."

The way her voice almost cracked at the last words made Alec sad for her.

"I'm so sorry mother. I know you love him."

Even though he himself didn't care that much If Robert had left, he knew his mother did. And he had thought that Robert had wanted to change. He had agreed to come to dinner that night... But maybe he wouldn't have come anyway if everything hadn't gone to hell.

"Maybe he'll come back..."

Desperation imbued her words and Alec could sense her pain. If he didn't think of Robert as that homophobic man he was, but instead saw him as his mother's biggest love, he really did understand. More than she would ever know. She still thought Magnus had left him, and that he didn't remember anything about it. But he did. And the thought of Magnus leaving him almost tore him apart.

He pulled their intertwined hands to his lips, and kissed the back of her hand.

"If it is what you want, then I hope he'll come back to you."

A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. She loved the way her son always seemed the be able to empathies and understand other people's feelings even when they didn't match his own. Her son had such a big heart.

"I'm sorry to disturb, but I need to examine Alexander now that he is awake."

The doctor stood in the doorway, waiting for Maryse to leave.

"Please, just call me Alec."

No one but Magnus would get to call him Alexander.

Maryse kissed Alec on the forehead before leaving to room so the doctor could examine him.

In the waiting-room Luke was pacing back and forth. He wanted to know Alec's condition before heading back to the precinct.

"Luke?"

Maryse placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him in his tracks.

"Thank you for helping him. And also, I'm sorry for being so... abrupt."

"It's a parent's right under these kinds of circumstances."

Before Maryse could say anymore, the doctor approached them.

"He has a concussion and needs rest. He shouldn't be alone the first 24 hours. He has taken a beating and he seems stressed, but nothing else is physically wrong."

-----

Finally sitting alone in his own bed, Alec pulled out a pen and paper. Izzy and Simon had been hoovering for hours after he came home, making sure he had everything he needed. But the thing he needed the most right now was privacy so he could write to Magnus and warn him.

My love

You need to be careful. The man you were with is very dangerous. Do not trust him! He is the one that kidnapped and tortured me. Please, just leave that place. Forget about Lilith. Forget about everything and come home. I miss you.

I'm sorry for scaring you. I was trying to get Lilith to do something we could pin on her. Luke tells me that they have nothing that points to her. No evidence that she is behind everything.

It is out of our hands. We can't do anymore, so please just come home. We'll run away and hide forever if that is what it takes. I just need you here. In my arms where I know you are safe.

Please...

I love you.

Yours forever.

Alexander
