Chapter Two - Flashbacks

I skipped to bus station, ready to take my bus to school. A few kids from my class joined me, waiting for our transport. When the bus pulled over, we all ran and climbed into the bus. My eyes scanned the vehicle, looking for an empty seat. I spotted a vacant seat beside a boy with curly hair who was about my same age. I didn't know him, as it was the first day of school and this was a new school for me. I sat down quietly and tapped him on the shoulder softly.

"Hello! My name's Emily Knox," I squeaked, flashing him a crooked smile. I had recently lost a tooth and my mom said I would be one the of first kids in my class to lose a tooth, so I felt proud and showed off as much I could.

"Hi! I'm Harry Styles, you knew here?" he whispered in reply.

"Yes, kind of. I've always lived in this town but my mom decided to transfer me to a better school, so that's why I'm here," I stated proudly.

Soon, we were engaged in conversation. Harry told me about his family and I told him about mine. We talked about our favourite memories and basically everything. It was nice to make a new friend.

-Later that day-

I was so relieved when they told me Harry and I were in the same class. I definitely needed someone to show me around. I waltzed into the classroom, looking for my friend. He was sitting with three other boys in the  corner of the room. I took the risk and went to join them, a shy smile playing on my lips.

"Hi, Harry! Are these your friends? Well, I'm Emily! Nice to meet you," I giggled, showing off my crooked smile once again.

To my surprise, Harry's friends burst out laughing and he joined them.

I quirked an eyebrow, surprised.

"MOUSE FACE!"

"What happened to your tooth? You look like a mouse!"

"Want some cheese, Mouse Face?"

My face burned with anger and embarrassment as my new classmates started teasing me. Why was Harry laughing along with them? I thought he was my friend. I fought back the tears and started walking away from the bullies. Harry had stopped laughing and was peering from behind his friend's back as I walked away, but I ignored him completely.

I sat on the opposite side of the room during the whole class period. I got up as soon as I heard the bell ring. I was heading for the benches outside when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned around, feeling slightly annoyed.

"I'm sorry I called you Mouse Face," whispered the boy with the curly hair.

"That wasn't nice, Harry. I thought we were friends," I replied, looking down.

"We are, Emily. I'm really sorry. Can we be friends now? I'll tell my friends to stop teasing you, I promise. And I always keep my promises," he begged.

I rolled my eyes, a smirk spreading across my face.

"Okay, I guess we can be friends. But this is your last chance. Alright?"
