'Beginnings... The older you get, the more rare they become. I've been my life on this ocean, learning through ways. It wasn't easy for me, and it won't be for you. But you will always have what you need to make it through. If I dwell in the furthest part of the sea, even there your hands will guide me. Your ship will always see the beginnings of a new day. Endings are too often on my mind. And I pray for new beginnings. And it seems that I got a second chance. A fresh start.'
Two Weeks Later...
It was an early sunny morning. The deep blue north Atlantic ocean stretched out ahead of the bow of the USS Chandler as it cut through the water heading South, South East on the open sea. There wasn't a cloud in the clear blue sky for miles. And the ocean seemed as calm as the day that was laying ahead. Kara Green was already manning her chair on the port side of the bridge. At that moment Mike stepped through the doorway onto the bridge.
"Captain's on the bridge," Julia who was the Officer Of The Deck alerted Kara who was commissioned as the Commanding Officer, Danny who was assigned as Lieutenant Commander, the helmsman and the rest of the crew on the bridge. Mike took a seat on his chair and gazed out onto the ocean. "It looks like it's going to be a clear and sunny day today."
"It's a quiet week so far captain," Kara replied as she gazed out over the ocean. "Nothing major except for a few encounters with biologicals."
"Too quiet if you ask me. Like the calm before the storm," Mike replied with a smirk.
"After five years of war on the Nathan James it's almost unbelievable that everything can be so normal. The Chandler hasn't even warmed up her weaponry yet."
"Anything on the radar?"
"No sir. We encountered a pack of dolphins this morning a few minutes before you came onto the bridge. They were really up close."
"Dolphins?" Mike turned to look at his daughter who was standing near the helmsman. "Julia probably loved seeing them. She was obsessed with dolphins as a teenager. I took her to her first dolphin show as soon as we landed in Norfolk from Chicago."
"That's one of the perks of being in the navy. You get so see free dolphin shows," Julie responded.
Kara turned to look at her. "You bet. So you grew up in Chicago? Your father told us he was a homicide detective before he took up position in the navy six years ago."
"South side yes," Julia replied. "It was pretty rough back then. I wonder what it's like now."
Mike picked up the coms receiver and alerted the Combat Information Center. "Bridge CIC,TAO, our helo dropped off a target at 060. Find target and kill with torpedoes."
CIC immediately responded to Mike's orders. "Copy that. Finding target at 060. Set track to kill with torpedoes."
They fired a torpedo at a reef a quarter mile ahead and hit it. "CIC, what's your status?"
