DEATH COMES

As I was about to answer him, we heard a scream. It came from one of the staff. Leedo and I jumped out of bed and ran to see what was wrong. We got to the top of the stairs and looked down.There was one of the housekeepers laying in a pool of blood. She had been decapitated. "Who did this" demanded Leedo. Ravn came flying in the door and changed. "Leedo, they are here, I tried to get here before they could. I'm sorry I didn't make it in time". "Who?" asked Leedo. At that moment a man came out from the corner, a machete, dripping with blood in his hands. "Me" he said. "I know who you are, you monster". Leedo pushed me behind him. "I don't know you, so why are you talking this nonsense". "You and your kind infested the last place I lived. My father died trying to rid us of you. Now I'm here to finish what he started" the man said. Leedo's face became filled with anger. "What are you talking about. We lived in peace. You and your family murdered everyone I loved for no reason" he screamed. "We never hurt anyone, yet you came and killed my family. I should kill you where you stand! But I was raised to not kill humans. So if you walk away, I will forgive this....mistake" The man snorted "what, and leave a monster like you alive and walking around"? "I made that mistake once. Won't let it happen again". "Leedo" I said "Let's go, I have a bad feeling about this". Ravn stepped in front of us "Don't worry, I can turn them into the rats they are". Ravn went to cast a spell,but out of no where, became paralyzed. A woman's voice could be heard laughing as she walked in the door. "Dear sweet Ravn. I told you I would get you back after you left me". Leedo had heard enough, he lept down the stairs and went to kill the human, he would deal with the witch after. As he landed, another man came out from around the corner, wrapping a rope around him. Normally, Leedo would have been able to snap that rope like it was nothing. But the witch had cast some sort of spell either on the rope or Leedo. "No" I screamed and ran down the stairs. Another man wrapped me in a similar rope. I hadn't been a vampire long, but I knew there was something wrong. I couldn't move, the rope had been enchanted. The witch ran her finger over Ravn's mouth, allowing him to speak. "What are you doing, you bitch" he yelled. "Why are you doing this. They will just kill you too" he said. "Not since I promised to help rid them of their vampire problem" she said smiling. The man took the machete and sliced Ravn's neck open. His eyes wide open in shock as his life slipped away from him. His body crumpled to the floor. "No" I screamed with tears in my eyes. I saw my friend on the floor, Leedo was in tears. His best friend, dead. Leedo and I looked at each other, both afraid for the other. He knew we were in trouble, Ravn had told him about her, and the strength of her magic. He looked at me "I'm sorry I put you in this danger" he said. He looked at the man with the bloody machete "Kill me, let her go, she wasn't even there". "Like I said, I let you blood suckers walk away once, I'm not gonna do that again. Just so she can come back and kill me? You really think I'm that stupid". He walked over to me, dripping a trail of Ravn's blood as he moved. "No, I'm gonna make you watch her die first, then it will be your turn". "Leedo" I said as tears ran faster down my face "I love you, and I don't blame you for this. This is their doing". He raised the machete, ready to kill. Out of nowhere another housekeeper who had been hiding screamed. She must have startled the witch enough to break her concentration because I was able to slip out of the rope. I turned and snapped the neck of the man behind me. I was about to kill the man with the machete but his reaction was too fast. Before I knew it, Leedo's head was on the floor. I still don't know what came over me, but a rage like one I had never felt before came over me and everything went black. When I came to, all the humans were dead, the witch had been torn apart, her body burning in the fireplace. I gained my senses back and then I saw them. Ravn and Leedo. "No" I screamed in pain. The love of my life, and my best friend. Gone. Why had I been left behind. In that moment how I wished to join Leedo in death. But I knew that's not what he would want for me. I knew I had to leave before anyone found out what had happened. I carefully wrapped Leedo and Ravn in sheets and built a wood pile in the garden. I said my good-byes and lay their bodies on the pile and lit the fire. I gathered all the money I could. Anything small and worth any value. I changed my clothes and went to the stable. I found the fastest horse and saddled him up and took off into the night. Tears were stinging my eyes as I refused to look back. The fire in the garden had begun to spread, and soon engulfed the castle. I would stop and let the horse rest, and keep moving. I had to get as far away from there as I could. I eventually ended up in Italy, and made a life there. Opened a blacksmith shop, hired a few local guys. I never found love again. Was it because I couldn't let him go? Or was it because he was my only soulmate? Who knows?
