"One large Hawaiian pizza, a large coke and a medium lemon lime &bitters" the waitress announces - I don't see why they do that, I mean, it's been 15 minutes since we ordered, we haven't forgotten, do we look 97 years old? -

I claim everything, and with a horrified look on the waitress's face, I pass over the large coke to Ali, and ask for 2 plates so we can share the pizza. Looking relieved, she walks off, returning seconds later with 2 huge plates.

Ali is my boyfriend, and if u haven't realized, we are on a date. But anyway, my name is Kat, well, Katrina Griffiths, but I don't think anyone actually knows my full name, I'm just Kat, and I have been all my life. I'm serious! On the roll in class, it's Marcus Delves,  Natasha Gomez, Kat, James Franklin, and so on.

Anyway, back to my date with Ali, his full name is Alastair Williams, but like me, he is just Ali, although there are others that know his full name. Ali is a red head, and you could argue that his hair is more than just red! He has beautiful dark eyes, which you can't stop staring at, and loads of freckles, only light, but none the less, they cover this pasty skin. He is quite short for 16, and I doubt he will grow much more.

And then there is me! I am quite tall, although I only reach up to the tip of Ali's nose. I have straight, diamond blonde hair, which won't curl for long at the best of times. I have bright blue eyes, really long eyelashes, a small nose, homing my freckles. This is none compared to Ali, and they are less visible as I am quite tanned.

So where were we, ah yes, the date - I'm sorry, I get side tracked! - well whilst devouring our Hawaiian pizza, which must have been 40cm across (sorry, I don't do inches) we're telling stories about primary school. I was in the middle of telling Ali about the time when my whole class tricked our horrible sub who we'd had for weeks into thinking we were all doing the 40 hour famine and we couldn't sit on furniture, when my phone wrang.

" I gotta take this" I tell him, walking out the front of the restaurant. It's chilly spring night in New York, and the Italian restaurant's sign lights up as bright as the moon. The rest of the street as dark and quite, except of the cinemas across the road, half a block down.

After about 5 minutes of discussion, I walk back into the restaurant to tell the bad news.

"I gotta go, now. I am so sorry" I say, trying, but failing, to sound sympathetic

"Where?" Ali replies confused

"Home, to pack. My Gran in England, she's sick in hospital and my Pa says she will only last a few days" I exclaim, forcing a tear out of my eye

"So you ARE going back to England? For how long? " he utters, obviously shaken by the turn of events - I actually feel sorry for him -

"A month at tops, and I will be back, I promise, I love you" I reassure him. "We are on the first plane tomorrow, so I really got to go" pulling out my wallet from my bag.

"I'll pay" he infers "and text or call me everyday"

"I'll try" I reply, readying myself to race out of the restaurant. With a peck on the cheek and an "I love you too" from Ali, I bolt out of the restaurant, finally away from all the harsh gazes.

As I leave, I hear the other customers beginning to mumble away again, and faintly hear Ali ask if he can have the remainder of our massive pizza in a box, quite awkwardly. But I can't stop now, I run into the nearest dead end alleyway, and wait for the signal.

Seconds later, I hear a helicopter fly over-head, and hide behind a dumpster, only to feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I jump up and sprint up the fire escape on the side of a building. Back and forth up the hundreds of never ending stairs, and finally stop at the roof.

I see the helicopter approach, with a ladder dangling down, and it reaches the roof I am standing on. That's when the empty darkness that surrounds me believes I have lost my mind.

As I jump onto the ladder, I begin to climb. As I near the top familiar hand reaches out and assists in  pulling me up. I sigh in relief,

" I had to think fast on that one!"
