Math class hero

Racing thoughts are all I have, What if I can't teach him, I mean not everyone's cut out to be a teacher right? What if he thinks I'm a boring math nerd. He's gonna walk through that door and see me in less than 10 minutes and I have to teach him math, something I've never done before.

Why did I agree to this, sure I'm relatively good at math but when it comes to people especially my own age and a boy not to mention my mind draws a blank.

There aren't many boys in our class, Hannhas freakishly tall boyfriend Finn Holsters, who I'm pretty sure is the star of the basketball team. Then there's Sam a shy guy who sits in the back and is glued to his phone. Of course theres Devon Godder a loudmouth who always thinks he has something super important to say, I hope it's not him. Eric who i often see picking his nose or doing something  gross. Last but not least Shawn Whitaker who's best friends with Finn, and pretty much his shadow.

Shawn; "uh hi, it's Rose right?"

Startled I looked up and muttered whatever words would come out,
"Oh hi you well, almost gave me a hart attack," followed by some awkward laughter on my part.

To my surprise he didn't seem at all putt off by my introduction or rather word vomit. He took a seat right across from me placing his binder on the table.

Shawn; "sorry did I keep you waiting long I had to get changed after gym."

he paused for a moment scratching his head

"sorry I'm still a little sweaty."

As I was readying myself to speak Shawn spoke up and with an awkward grin said;

"I probably didn't need to mention the sweaty part," we both laughed nervously before Shawn declared, "my bad."

Shawn seems to be just as awkward and nervous as I am. He's a lot different than how I picture him, I wonder what he thinks of me he probably didn't even know I existed until today.

Shawn; "So uh where do we start."

Shawn opened his binder unleashing paper after paper across the table. He scrambled to shove them all back into his big blue zip up binder making no attempt to organize. I wasn't sure if he was just embarrassed or that was how he always reacted when opening his binder.

Seeing how shy Shawn was made me less nervous. With more confidence I opened my mouth, "Let's start with organizing your binder, you can't get work done if you can't find it."

By time we got done organizing everything, and i mean everything math, english, french even gym the library was near closing time. "Looks like we won't have any time to work on actual math," Shawn jokingly said.

I smiled comfortably, "oh well"
I was kinda relieved realizing I haven't even thought about where to start. From looking at Shawns binder I'd say he's at least a week behind.

For the most part Shawn and I kind of  hit it off mind you we were both shy and awkward. He spent most of the time apologizing for his messy binder. I didn't mind and he promised to put any new papers away properly before leaving class.

When I got home mom was there waiting for me probably wondering where I've been, usually after school mom has me help her clean houses.

"Where have you been? I had to clean Mrs Deanne's house all by myself," mom said with a fern voice.

Thinking quickly I explain, "I'm sorry I had to stay late to finish a test." I couldn't tell the truth mom my would call the school and protest that I'm far to busy and not qualified to tutor another student. If I'm being honest I'm starting to like talking with Shawn and don't want my mom interfering.

"Why couldn't you do it tomorrow or some other time?"  mom questioned. " I haven't had time to cook dinner and I have a late night shift at Ronny's later."

I've gotten used to lying to my mom so coming up with an excuse was easy,

"I tried but all test had to be handed in by the end of the day, it was last period." I said lying through my teeth.

Of course I feel bad I could tell mom was tired and she probably needed my help. She didn't even sit at the table for dinner she just took her plate to go and left for work, "good night" she mumbled on her way out.
