Winter melted into Spring, and suddenly the school was decorated in posters and floral arrangements to get the seniors ready for the Spring Formal.

I was sitting in Modern History, ignoring Bailey as usual...does it count as ignoring if they're not attempting to talk to you?

"I've marked all of your assignments and I must say, I'm very pleased overall with your efforts. I'll hand them back to you now," our teacher said, and she began walking from desk to desk handing back the thick bundles of paper we had worked so hard on.

"Well done girls," Mrs Hanley said as the paper slapped against the desk, a large '100%' scrawled across the front page.

I didn't say a word, I simply just pushed it over to Bailey's side of the table.

"That was all you," Bailey said softly, pointing to the '100%' on our assignment. I didn't want to accept her compliment, because it wasn't entirely true, but I didn't want to reply either....

"No it wasn't," I replied, shaking my head.

We sat in silence for a moment, before she broke it with something I wasn't expecting to hear.

"Do you hate me?" she asked softly, and my heart stopped beating for a moment.

I didn't respond, not knowing how to. I stared forward at the whiteboard, somehow praying to god that in my silence she would find the answer she needed. As soon as the bell rang she stormed out of the room. I got up and followed her, deciding I should tell her I didn't hate her. When I walked out of the classroom I came face to face with Bailey and Katie.

"So I was just wondering if you had a date to the Spring Formal?" Katie asked Bailey.

"No, I'm not going," Bailey said simply, before trying to walk away.

"Bailey, wait! Will you be my date? Please?" Katie practically begged.

Bailey's eyes flicked over to me and she looked down, replying to Katie quietly.

"No. I'm sorry," and she walked off.

I watched as Bailey continued down the hallway before disappearing around the corner. I was just about to turn around and walk to my next class before a loud yell stopped my in my tracks.

"This is your fault!" Katie yelled at me, catching me by surprise.

"How is it my fault?" I asked incredulously.

Katie stormed up to me raising her hand, preparing to slap me across the face. Before Katie could come any closer, Bailey appeared out of nowhere, grabbing her arm in mid-air.

"Don't. Fucking. Touch. Her!" she seethed, her face red with anger.

Katie ripped her hands out of Bailey's grip and glared at me before storming off hurriedly. Bailey and I shared an awkward silence before I quickly turned and ran in the opposite direction. Running from her.

"So we have spent over two thousand dollars on faux flowers for the formal so far, and that's just for the tables and chairs!" Amanda ranted. She was on the Spring Formal committee and we had endured non stop formal talk for weeks now.

"What else could you possibly need faux flowers for?" Lauren asked.

"We still have to buy flowers for the flower wall backdrop and the flower arch!" Amanda said, as if the answer was obvious.
