"I apologise for Greg's behaviour, Naomi" Jacob scratches the back of his neck.

"It's fine Jacob" I let out a laugh because the whole situation seems quite amusing and bizarre to be honest.

Jacob and I make our way back to the house and continue to watch TV, lost for words.
"Look, Naomi," Jacob begins to say to me.

I gesture acknowledgment and he nods.

"If you need me when we get back to school, just give me a text and I'll meet you," he continues to explain to me.

I tilt my head in confusion.

"I'm just looking out for you, Naomi" he sighs.

"I know you are Jacob, but I am perfectly capable to take care of myself..." I curl my lip in concern.

Jacob sighs again and there is a long pause before he replies.

"I know Naomi, I wasn't questioning that, but it'll be your first time in the school, and the new kids don't get treated very nicely, that's all," he adds onto his statement.

I walk across the room and sit on the same sofa as him and give him a hug.

"I know you mean well Jacob, just sometimes you go about in strange ways to show it."

He smiles at me and nods in agreement.

We soon hear the door open, and Penny comes charging in with two bags full of groceries.

"How many people are we feeding tonight, Penny!?" I can't help but burst into laughter at her efforts.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you. We are having family friends over, don't worry. It'll be really good fun!" She grins, her lips reaching from ear-to-ear.

I put on a convincing smile and grit my teeth.
