“You like Austin Hart!” Katie exclaims loudly on the phone.
“Yes, but he’s, well, you know-” I thought out loud.
“ With that horrid cheerleader Jennifer Hooper,” she said.
“No.”
“He’s totally out of your league, he's a senior, and is too hot for you?”
“No!” I said outraged.
“Ok, I was just asking. Is it his popularity?”
“I guess that’s it. I don’t know!” I protested as I brushed my auburn hair, “Oh sorry, Robbie’s calling.”
“I’ve told you this before,” she started her lecture, “Hanging out with that geek is social suicide. He is clumsy, weird, and above all things, a one outta ten on the hotness scale. If you want a real man, go for Austin!” The words tumbled in my head.
“Look, we’re just friends. Okay?”
“Ugh, fine,” she nagged.
“Hey Robbie,” I said. Maybe Robbie Ericson wasn’t the most popular guy in school. And sure, maybe all those things Katie said about him are true, but he’s really sweet and he’s my friend. A very good friend.
“Hey Amelia,” he answered. Most of our phone, including this one, included long conversations which consisted of him doing much of the talking, but I really liked the end of our conversations when he usually quoted Star Trek and says, “Live long, and prosper”. It really showed his personality. The reason why I hung with him a lot is because of his unique personality that no one else seemed to value. I saw that in Robbie too. Just looking into his dark hazel eyes gives me the sense of a kind person behind all of the awkward-nerdiness and braces. Suddenly in the middle of my thoughts I head knock knock on the door.
“Hurry up little witch, I want to get my makeup done. You’re taking too much time in the bathroom like always!” my sister, Lizzie, shouts while continuously pounding on the door.
“You mean put on your raccoon eyes and red monster lips,” I teased.
“Ugh, you little brat! When you come out you’re getting a beating! Also, Michael and Brian both admire my raccoon eyes, and they love to kiss my so called monster lips,” she remarked.
“That’s only because those ugly jerks can only get their hands on easy girls like you!” I teased again. Now I know I’m really in for it. My sister can throw a mean cat fight.

When I got on the bus for the Holy Trinity Christian school immediately I headed to the back of the bus the where Katie usually sat. She was all sunshine and smiles today like she is everyday. She was wearing a bright gold tank top with skinny jeans. Katie usually wears something with skinny jeans everyday. I was wearing a white lace skirt with a plain pink shirt tucked in. On the first day of school you have to look your best and make an impression. Especially, because I’m a sophomore now and that’s when Senior guys like Austin go for the sophomore girls.
“I need some major lip action this year or I’m going to be down in the dumps loser!” Katie plans.
“Well, I need major lip action with one guy. How can I ever get someone like Austin to like a girl like me!” I complained. Okay, maybe I focus too much attention on my problems, but this is a major crisis. The next stop was Robbie’s and I knew how he would dress. It would be a nice, no creases, no lint, polo with nice khaki pants. Every polo either had to be green and blue stripes or blue and green stripes and his khakis had to be nicely pressed and caramel colored. He walks with an awkward limp and drags his backpack like its a two hundred pound weight. He sits in the chair across from Katie and I. Katie just turns away like looking at him will kill her social status. I just lean towards him and talk.
