"Is Linda coming tonight?" Jamie wondered. The Reagans and Linda had an arrangement: every fourth Friday of the month, would be Linda and Jamie's Friday. The blonde hadn't started dating Danny when she took the babysitting job. Since she and Danny went out nearly every Friday, she reserved one for Jamie.
"Is she?" Danny looked to his Mom, "she seemed sick at school."
"She just told you that so you wouldn't know that she had her period." Erin explained, "she ate all my chocolate."
"Why didn't she tell me?"
"Cause you're, um.... shall we say... insensitive?"
"What?! I am not— I see your point."
"Can we do something for her?" Jamie wondered. "I like eating Cheerios when I'm sick."
"Baby brother, you might be a genius," Danny ruffled Jamie's hair. "Here's what we do...."
************
Linda sighed as she pushed the doorbell. She ached all over, but she needed to keep her "date". She had promised, and she hated breaking promises.
"I got it!" Danny yelled, walking towards the door. He peeked through the peep hole, smiling immediately when he saw his girl. "Hey."
"Hi." She smiled when he kissed her cheek.
"Sorry you weren't feeling too good today."
She shrugged, "might as well get used to it. I'll be living with it for... oh, I dunno. Thirty four more years?"
Danny smirked, "lucky you."
"Oh, yeah. Lucky me." The blonde nodded, sarcasm coating her voice.
"Linda!" Jamie smiled coming down the stairs, "I made something for you!" He took her hand and led her to the kitchen threshold. "Danny told me you had a tough day at school, and I should be super, super nice. Then Erin said something about, um.... a punctuation mark? I didn't really understand that part." He said dismissively, "But this thing I made is in the kitchen!"
Linda looked to Danny, "really? He told you all that?" She smiled softly, watching Danny's wars turn red.
"Yes. And so I'm gonna try to be super duper nice. But you gotta see what's in the kitchen!"
"Okay, what's in the kitchen?" She followed Jamie, wondering what he was so excited about. "It, um... it looks like you guys were busy." She stated, noting the messy kitchen.
"We were, cause we were making these!" Jamie handed Linda a big tin. "Open it!"
"What is it?" She opened the tin and saw lopsided cookies. "Ooh, cookies." She took a bite from one, "mmm, chocolate!" She handed one to Jamie and one to Danny, mouthing, I love you.
***********
Jamie was scared. He didn't know why his friend was crying. They were just watching a movie, a very nice, funny movie, when she just started crying. Little Jaime quickly went to find his older brother. He ran into the room, "something's wrong with Linda!" He grabbed Danny's hand and dragged him downstairs, the older Reagan fearing the worse.
When he saw she was crying, he guessed it was because of cramps. He sat down next to her, "are you okay?"
"No," she leaned on hi shoulder, sobbing harder.
"What's wrong, Linda?" Jamie wondered, not sure what the heck was going on.
"Uh, you'll understand when you're older." Danny told him, not wanting to embarrass Linda or tell him more than his parents wanted. He knew they wanted to wait until he was at least ten years old to have that talk. "Jamie, why don't you get the heat pad and water for Linda?"
Jamie nodded and left, wanting to help his friend.
"Thank you," Linda mumbled as the little boy handed her the heat pad. He plugged it in, then went to fill up a glass with water and ice.
"Thanks, kid," Danny handed it to Linda, and she sipped it slowly.
************
"I'm sorry," Linda apologized about thirty minutes later, Jamie fast asleep.
"It's okay. If I'm gonna be a husband, I need all the practice I can get." He kissed her forehead, making her smile. "You'll be a great husband. You're already a great boyfriend."
