The Thai girl was looking down at the Han River, wondering if she was really doing the right thing.
She was having a small internal conflict... But her main thought was...
I have nothing left to lose. So where's the wrong in this?
Lalisa Manoban only wanted two things in life; to be worth it and to make her parents proud.
Yet she failed in both.
I'm such a disappointment... A failure... I can't do anything... I can't find someone to spend the rest of my life with, I can't find a job, I can't make people happy, I can't make my family proud, I can't even live without my parents having to pay for my needs as well. I can't do anything right... Anything. Nothing at all. I was able to push everyone away and now I'm all alone. Lalisa, you're such an idiot. You deserve to have this end. It's not like someone cares about you. Just put an end to all this suffering...
She climbed over the iron fence, keeping herself still attached with her shaky hands. People who passed by were too scared or busy to approach her. Too focused on minding their own business and complicated lives to notice a young 22 years old lady wanting to jump off the bridge.
About to end her life which still hasn't even started.
As the young girl looked down, tears wetting her cheeks, another girl was passing by after returning from work; Kim Jisoo an happy and carefree 24 years old lady, ready to bring half her earning to her grandparents.
She noticed the girl from afar and squeezed her eyes to see clearer and once she was sure, she didn't hesitate in running towards the hopeless younger.«DON'T DO IT!» Jisoo exclaimed back hugging the younger to keep her from falling in the exact moment her hands let go of the iron bar she was holding on «I don't know what's going on in your life. But I know this is not the solution, things will get better, trust me. Trust me because I saw people in horrible moments conquering their lives and be happy. Even when they were at their lowest point. Come inside, let's talk. Tell me what's going on, but don't jump, you're too young.»
Lalisa really didn't want to listen to the stranger keeping her from falling and ending everything, but she knew, she felt it, the stranger would have never let her go. So sighing and still crying she slowly nodded, the older smiling a little, helping her get back inside. As soon as she was inside and safe, she fell into the stranger's arms, her crying loud, her hope non-existent, her will to live and hold on long gone.
The Korean woman kept her arms wrapped around the Thai, one hand through her long brown hair, murmuring sweet comforting words, patiently waiting for the girl to calm down.
Once Lalisa was calm a little, the two sat down on a bench, the older saying «I'm Jisoo, what's your name?»
The young girl sniffed «Lalisa... Or Lisa for short...»
«I will be pretty straight Lisa. How did you reach this point? What makes you think ending your life will resolve everything?»
Lisa looked up at the older girl, her eyes searching for genuine concern, which she found «I... Everything isn't working. I'm a failure. A disappointment. I can't do anything. Anything. I can't even find a job! I'm not successful, I have no worth, my parents... They must pity me so much and try to figure out what went wrong with me, they're surely ashamed... I'm ashamed...»
«How old are you Lisa? Not that this really matters.»
Lisa said as her tears were falling down again «22...»
«You're still young.» Jisoo started in a soothing tone «You have a whole life in front of you, things might be hard, things may not go your way, you think there's nothing left, you think you're not good at anything. You see your friends doing better than you and you can't help yourself but compare your achievements with theirs and feel worthless. But, life is hard, there are good and bad days, sometimes only bad days. But you know what they say? After the storm comes the rainbow. Same with life. Things may not go well, may be hard, you are hopeless, but it's not the end. It is not the end Lalisa. You have so much to learn and to experience and I swear to you, things will get better if you don't give up. Things will go your way. You'll be successful, you'll have many achievements, you'll find someone to love, to spend your life with, you'll see your parents proud, you'll be fine. You will be happy once again. And never feel worthless, because everyone, no matter what, is worth it. And so are you. If you can't find a reason to go on, to keep on trying, use me as a reason. Do it for me Lisa, do it for the stranger who saved your life. And once you'll feel better do it for yourself as well. I believe in you Lisa. And if I, a stranger, believes in you, why shouldn't you believe in yourself?» Lisa didn't know what to say, her voice seemed gone as tears kept falling without sign of stopping.Jisoo opened her purse and gave her an envelope with the money that should have gone to her grandparents, it was okay, she would have gave her half to them, she could survive for a while with less than usual.
«Here, take this. Use this to get yourself something to drink and eat. Use them whenever you need in your fight for happiness. They're not much, I know, but if you use them wisely, they'll be helpful.»
Lisa's eyes widened «No, no, I-I can't accept them. They're yours, y-you need them.»
Jisoo insisted and pushed the envelope on her lap «One, no, I don't need them. Two, even if I did, you need them more. I know I'm not throwing them away, I know they're in good hands, that you'll use them right.»
Lisa said a little anxious «At least leave me your number or something so I can pay you back.»
Jisoo took out a piece of paper and a pen from her purse writing something and giving the paper to the girl after standing up «I believe in you Lisa. Never give up okay?» Lisa nodded «Hwaiting!!» and after that she went away, as Lisa decided to read the paper:Lisa smiled and dried her tears looking around for Jisoo, still wanting to repay her, but she was already gone.
I promise Jisoo unnie. I promise.
