••••••••••••••••••••"emerson wake up. i have something for you." my mother said shaking me awake. i sit up and look at her. "what could possibly be worth me getting up?" i raise my eyebrow. "you'll see," she reply's and walks out. i remove the warm covers from my body and stand up. when i stand, i stumble on my footing for a second but i stand straight. as i walk to my door, my lab puppy runs into my room. "hey nate. what are you doing boy?" i say to him as i pick him up. he tries to wiggle out of my grid, so i let him down on the dark laminate wood floor.
i walk to the door and peek my head out. mother is walking down the stairs. nate runs past her and down the stairs. i walk to the rail and see him run into the hallway where the front door is. i don't think anything of it and head down the stairs myself. when i get to the bottom of the stairs i turn right, into the kitchen. mothers back was facing me. looks like she's cooking. "mmm, do i smell bacon?" i ask. "yes," she replies.
*DING DONG*
"emerson, sweetheart, can you get that?" she asks. "sure" i simply say. i get to the hallway and nate is going crazy by the door, which is usually normal when someone knocks or rings the door bell. i open the door enough to see who's there, but not enough for nate to get out. he tends to run out of if you open the door wide enough.
i look out the door but nobody's there, and i look down and see a boxes i pick it up i see it's addressed to me. "hey mom, did you order something for me and not say anything?" i ask her as i walk back in the kitchen. "no," she replies. "but i did" a voice says be hind me. i set the box and turn around to see someone i haven't seen in about two months.
