Chapter 12 - The "Show"
"You guys go ahead and get your ice creams, we have to go meet with our friend now. Have fun together!" Vanessa told us as she and her sister stood up to get out of the booth. Before going though, Veronica came to me and whispered in my ear to take this chance to enjoy my time with Rain.
I can't believe I even told her I liked Rain the other day. It was a huge mistake. She's been bugging me about it since I told her. It was a huge mistake to tell her that. Now she's probably going to tell her sister and her friend and maybe one day Rain! She cannot know that I like her.
"What'd she say?" I heard Rain say from next to me. I shook my thoughts out and focused on Rain. I looked to her and replied stupidly with a simple nothing. "Oh come on, Park, she clearly said something to make you deep into through like that and blush like you are right now!"
I realized my cheeks were burning red, which made me blush a deeper shade of red. "It was nothing. It's just she told me to take care of you since they - you know, you're their friend," I made an excuse. Clearly you could see that I am terrible at excuses. Like the one I made in first grade when I didn't turn in my homework. I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Ms. Anderson, I'm sorry I didn't do my homework, my dad took me away to this UFO and tried to make me go on it and I escaped. So, when I came home I didn't have any time left. Worst lie of my life. Obviously I got an F for that assignment.
"Park, do you expect me to believe that? Give me the truth. Not a stupid dumb excuse that you know I won't believe," Rain crossed her arms waiting for a reply for me. For a second, I thought of not replying at all, or making a run for it. No, that was too mean I couldn't just leave her here while I run away because I'm embarrassed. She was my best friend after all, who would leave their best friend here alone because you were too scared to tell her about what someone said?
I thought deep and hard for an excuse. Nothing came to mind. I thought and though and suddenly something slipped out of my mouth. "She told me to enjoy this moment that I have with you because I totally like you and I have feelings for you, Rain," I said out in one breath. By the time I realized that that wasn't meant to come out, Rain's jaw had already dropped to the ground.
"Ha ha, Park. Very funny, now if you could stop joking around maybe that would be better?" Rain didn't have feelings for me she didn't like me. Of course she wouldn't ever like a guy like me. I was just nobody who just happened to get a reply to her when I stuck a paper to a window. Who the hell am I to be thinking she liked me? She'd never like me. We'd only stay friends.
"Rain, I'm not joking..." I trailed off, looking down at my hands on my laps. Stupid, stupid, stupid, Park! Why did you have to say that?
Suddenly a waiter came and stood right beside me. "Would you guys like to order?" She asked politely.
"Just give me strawberry," Rain said, her tone plain and emotionless.
"And you?" The waiter asked me.
"Same," I said with the same tone Rain had. I wasn't happy that she reacted like that, nor was I happy that I accidently spilled that out. Why was fate so cruel?
The waiter walked away with our orders. I played with my hands under the desk. "Rain?" I unexpectedly called her name out.
She faced me instantly with a small smile on her face. "What is it?" Her tone had changed form unhappy to happy. "Come on tell me, don't go dazing off on me now."
"I'm sorry I made you mad. That wasn't supposed to come out. Can we just...forget about that?" Her expression changed again. Her smile that was once there turned into a frown as she slowly, sadly, nodded. I wished that she could have just...said she liked me back, but that's out of mind.
