Fate for Hazel

KNOCK KNOCK, WHOS THERE, MR.TREE

Wherever mom was taking me, it was clearly very far away. I figured out one thing by noticing this ; it means that wherever I'll be going, I wont be coming home for a long, long time.
Not that anyone will miss be back here, anyway.
The scenery completely changed after a certain point. Instead of being buildings and houses, it became trees and valleys.
I was surprised when mom stopped the car. Because when I looked outside, all I saw was a few old trees and grasslands.
Still I got out of the car and took my bags with me, when I saw mom walking towards a tree.
I followed her and she came to a halt when she reached that certain tree.
She rummaged through her pocket and pulled out an old tattered piece of paper. She looked at it and hesitated before reaching out and knocking on the tree. Had mom gone bonkers?
Maybe I had gone bonkers. That's what I thought after what I saw next.
Within seconds, the place which was once grasslands, now turned into small huts and children playing around. I glanced at mom. She looked at her paper and kept walking.
Finally we entered this room. There was a lady sitting at a desk in the centre of the room. She stared up at us as soon as we walked in.
"Your business here?" She asked, clearly startled.
Mom went up to her desk and gave her the piece of paper. The lady opened it slowly. She had ginger hair, glasses and wore a jacket that made her look like the kind of person who had no sense of humor.
She examined the note and told my mom to say her goodbyes.
Mom wrapped me in a hug. She whispered in my ear "its for your own good Hazel." Before pulling away from me.
The front desk lady rolled her eyes and motioned for me to follow her. Before I lost sight of the room, I could have sworn I saw mom break down into tears before she walked out of the room.
