"You're late," my boss says as I enter the makeup trailer.
"I know, I'm sorry. It's just LA traffic," I quickly explain myself.
"Cut her some slack, three lanes were closed on the highway," the other makeup artist tells her.
"Thanks," I whisper to my coworker as I go to look at the whiteboard with my tasks for today lined up. Being an intern, I don't get treated the best if I screw up. But I really don't mind, it's completely worth it having a job this cool. Working on an A24 film has been my dream for years, and it's still insane to me that I'm even here.
I read the schedule. "Y/N - finn touchups."
I can work with that. They normally just make the makeup department interns do touchups on the actors during filming. And getting paid to touch Finn Wolfhard's face all day? I have zero complaints. Speak of the devil...
"Good morning!" Finn says as he enters the trailer. Everybody has high energy today since we're filming the final scenes this week, Finn included.
I look over at him with a little smile. He greets everybody then looks at me, giving me a little nod. Being on set with him every day, we're familiar with each other. We joke around sometimes. He knows I'm a makeup assistant, that's pretty much it. I know much more about him if you couldn't have guessed.
I hate to say it, but I have a crush on him. Always have, since like 2016, and meeting then working with him hasn't made it go away. If anything it's gotten worse. When he walks in, it's the best part of my fucking day. Just getting to see Finn Wolfhard and be in the same room as him. Being paid to fix his hair or re-touch his makeup is the best thing that's ever happened to me (that's possibly an exaggeration). But I keep those feelings to myself, as I should.

I wave Finn over in between takes to add more fake blood to his face. The final scene of the movie requires quite a bit of special effects makeup on Finn's face to make an injury believable. And being on touchup duty for him, I get to apply red goop to his face between each take.
It's hilarious, and everybody on set keeps finding it funny how often I have to touch him up. I would find it exhausting, but it's actually really fun since it's Finn we're talking about here.
We wrap by mid-afternoon, and the director gives a quick speech on set before we all head back to the makeup trailer to clean up. Most of the cast is quite covered in fake blood.
Finn sits in the makeup chair, and I go through quite a few wipes cleaning his face and neck while he talks to another one of the actors. Then he goes on his phone for a minute before putting it away. He looks at the mirror, observing himself and me. I'm almost done, but it's taken quite a while.
"Thanks for making me bleed all day, y/n," he says.
I feel my heart suddenly race. "You know my name?" I ask, with humor.
"I pay attention," he says back.
I smile. I don't know what to say so I just keep doing my job, cleaning off his cheek.
"So you're an intern?" he asks.
"Yeah," I sigh, "getting job experience and hopefully being on sets will help me with connections and getting into film school and stuff."
"Like, as a makeup artist?"
"Oh, no," I laugh. "I want to be a writer and producer. My dad is, so he helped me get this internship. I'm actually paid, so that's cool."
"Then why do you work in the makeup trailer? Since you want to produce."
I can't believe he actually wants to talk to me. I'm just another intern. "Well, they're like the only department that would hire a high schooler, and I heard about this movie when it was first pitched, and I knew I really wanted to be a part of it, so I took the chance that I got," I explain. I'm surprised by my own ability to not say something awkward right now.
